  • Regeneration/Environment (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Samantha Heath
    • Meeting date: 15 October 2003
Yes, the best practice for 2012 as I understood what you said earlier on. In terms of 2012 sustainability and environmental issues, the carbon dioxide targets that the Assembly set for London did indicate that we should have developments being carbon neutral to comply with national and international targets on carbon dioxide. So do you think we could go for some kind of carbon neutrality for the Games?

    • Question by: Samantha Heath
    • Meeting date: 15 October 2003
So, I am clear that you are committed to a 2012/2016 standard rather than 2005, and your Masterplanners are so committed as well.

    • Question by: Samantha Heath

And standards for construction, Tony, would you say that 2012 standards would be what we are looking for or that 2005 would be adequate?

  • Regeneration/Environment (Supplementary) [8]

    • Question by: Samantha Heath

But do you think we would win the Games if we went for 2005 standards? Do you think we need to improve on Sydney? Presumably we do if we want to win.
  • Regeneration/Environment (Supplementary) [9]

    • Question by: Samantha Heath
    • Meeting date: 15 October 2003
Okay, fine. What sort of monitoring do you think you would be putting in place that would ensure that our promises were clear and that we would be monitoring as we progressed in terms of sustainability or regeneration?

    • Question by: Samantha Heath

    You are monitoring it?
  • Regeneration/Environment (Supplementary) [11]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 October 2003
You have talked about the London-wide regeneration impact. You have talked about the focused impact in the Lower Lea Valley, which is fantastic. But how do you reassure Londoners who are concerned about the existing big strategic regeneration projects in the rest of London (Paddington Basin, King's Cross, Elephant & Castle, South Central) that regeneration funding will not be sucked away from those projects? What is the reassurance we can offer to the other regeneration schemes in London that are important?
  • Transport (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 15 October 2003
Actually TfL are visiting Hackney next week. I just want to bring it back to the IOC questionnaire that has to detail any opposition. Perhaps Barbara could comment on that?
