  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Tony Devenish
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Tony Devenish AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning, panel, and good morning, Deputy Mayor. I think that was the best excuse I have heard for the Mayor not turning up yet. We get one every time. There is one thing that has not been mentioned so far this morning. As somebody who has spent most of my career in infrastructure, it is the vision thing. You are going into the begging bowl at the end, Deputy Mayor, but before you have a begging bowl you actually need a vision. Both of the first two Mayors really - and I do...
  • Economic Recovery in London (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Tony Devenish
    • Meeting date: 23 July 2020
Tony Devenish AM: Chair, I will be very succinct. Two questions, and I will put them to Jace Tyrrell, and others can come in when they get called by other Assembly Members. Jace, could you please just give us an update on where we are on business rates and what we need the Government to do? That is my first question. Secondly, would you agree with me the biggest concern is that the lost generation are the teens and early 20s that are not already in work? Let’s not always say, “What can Government do?” What can business do to...

Thank you for that, Barbara. But, let me just push you. Are you saying that at this stage you do not envisage any large infrastructural build? I say this because I had a meeting with a number of people across London and they find that hard to believe, given what we have seen from other Olympics, and given what we have seen in Barcelona, when that stadium was not used; and given that we know that the Sydney stadium is empty unless there is a major game. So it is about assurance. Londoners would be quite happy if you are...

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 15 October 2003
I have two colleagues whose constituencies are in east London and they have some questions. Before I hand over to them, let me just ask a question. How can we use the transforming power of young people in our inner city areas, especially young people from ethnic minority communities, who, at their best, are some of the best sports performers, We note your appointment of Dalton Grant. Can you just tell us how you are actually going to put together a programme to include them from now, rather than call them at the ninth hour? Surely, now is an opportunity...
