I am very delighted to hear that, although I was rather sorry that there was a delay because I can remember at least two years ago when we were in here for a scrutiny session, and you came with your Union Representative and he agreed that there really was no hold up with the Union as to getting this sorted out in London as long as they were not to be sent there instead of an ambulance, to which we, of course, agreed.     I really commend the work that you are doing. I must congratulate you on the preventative work that you are doing, because it really is quite excellent. Under the guise of vulnerability, can I ask whether under your draft London Safety Plan and your modernisation plans you can assure me that there is going to be enough equipment and staff in areas where there are a large numbert of residential tower blocks? I mean council estates in London. Can you assure me that equipment and manpower is available in those areas?

    Since the TTS unit was diverted to the implementation of the Congestion Charge scheme, concerns have been raised about the outstanding backlog of maintenance of signals on Borough roads. Local authorities also have many new schemes which have had to be put on hold. What plans have you for catching up with the maintenance backlog and will TfL enter into service level agreements with the local authorities? .
