  • Leveson Inquiry

    • Reference: 2012/0057-2
    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 29 November 2012
Perhaps I can start with the Commissioner because we are meeting on the day that Lord Justice Leveson is to announce the results of his inquiry and recommendations. No doubt there will be recommendations with regards to the police as well. I just wondered if you could take a couple of minutes just to explain whether you have actually seen the report, know what the recommendations are and how the police are going to respond to it.
  • Newham police officers

    • Reference: 2012/0058-2
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 29 November 2012
I think, John, you wanted to ask on an issue that is topical at the moment. John Biggs (AM): Yes, which is we cannot comment on a case in front of the courts, but obviously there are two Newham police officers who are in front of the courts at present and we will see what happens. I wanted an assurance from you, Commissioner, that regardless of the outcome of that case, this does raise very serious issues about culture and conduct, and that you would be acting after the event in a way that is exemplary, clear and forceful about...
  • Police morale

    • Reference: 2012/0060-2
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 29 November 2012
Commissioner, if I was a serving officer, I would be really worried about the future of my service. Certainly, from a survey that was done in November, there is that low morale in the service and in the Metropolitan Police Service. On 21 November, you told a BBC Radio 5 live interviewer that indeed there was low morale in the service. Can you share with us what you are doing about that? I mean, in the midst of this storm or tsunami of all the political interference and redrafting of the service, what are you doing to support the staff...
  • Sanction Detection Rates

    • Reference: 2012/0065-2
    • Question by: Fiona Twycross
    • Meeting date: 29 November 2012
I just wanted to ask about the drop in rape reporting and wanted to ask the Commissioner when the Metropolitan Police Service will conclude its assessment of the reasons behind the recent drop in reports of rape and whether the findings of the assessment will be shared with the Committee.
  • Training

    • Reference: 2012/0066-2
    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 29 November 2012
Can I just pick up some of the training issues then. I am very pleased you said you welcomed outside providers perhaps that deal with violence against women and girls to come in and do some training, because that is one of the issues that was raised with us from those support groups. I understand that particularly with you recruiting more PCs, part of your frontline training is now going to be computer based. How do you ensure the quality of that and the quality of response to vulnerable victims with that computer-based training?
  • Public disorder incidents in London (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Nicky Gavron
    • Meeting date: 07 September 2011
): There is a very good track record in many areas of London of engagement by the police with the community, particularly in gang intervention, and I know, Acting Commissioner, that this is something you know a lot about. Have there been cuts in that intervention?
  • Public disorder incidents in London (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 07 September 2011
Thank you. On behalf of our Group, I also thank the many officers for the bravery that they showed over the August period. As the Assembly Member for Tottenham, I think it would remiss of me if I did not ask some questions about what you, Tim, yesterday referred to the House of Commons Select Committee as 'the initial incident', and this was certainly to do with some of the questions that came out of the Select Committee yesterday. You stated yesterday that the response to the shooting of Mark Duggan could have been handled differently, and you referred to...
  • Relationship with Mayor's Office

    • Reference: 2010/0072-1
    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 21 July 2010
How do you see the relationship between your department and the Mayor's office differing from that under the previous government and what prospect do you see for greater devolution to the Mayor and Assembly?
  • Devolution to the GLA and Boroughs (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 21 July 2010
We are really talking about the Mayor's wants. Are there Government wants? You have outlined the Government vision around devolution and on the NHS strategic functions that are being taken back into Government and obviously Ministers will want to take stock. Is there not a case that some of those strategic aspects carried out by the Strategic Health Authority for London should not come under the Mayor's ambit? Is there any thinking about that going on in Government at this stage, or if not at this stage, at some stage in the future?
  • Planning (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Nicky Gavron
    • Meeting date: 21 July 2010
My first point is that in thinking abut the London Plan in relation to boroughs and in relation to the point made by Roger Evans about consultation, I think if one is not very careful, the time will be taken up with consultation. That is what takes time - consulting. I just want to point out that we had nearly 1,000 responses to this London Plan, which is three times as many as the previous London Plan, which shows that something is working around consultation. The second point is a strategic point. It is really important for us to be...
