  • Oral Update (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 03 December 2008
One of the most troubling aspects of this affair is the extent to which national security is again being cited as a justification for all manner of action. I am not asking you, Sir Paul, to comment on that, as you would understand the national security implications, if any, of this affair. I would want to make a point that we see from Mumbai how some threats to our security are very real and the nation is now looking to you as Acting Commissioner to give impartial advice on national security matters. Can I put it to you that one...
  • Community Fire Safety Work (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Indeed. That is showing up in the home safety checks which I think have risen from around 9,000 a couple of years ago to approximately 20,000 in the year that has just ended and the target for the current year is approximately 30,000. Even if you add all that up, that is 40,000-50,000 home safety checks. One or two per cent of Londoners have had a home safety check. Should we not be looking for a real huge step forward in this area?
  • Removal of Beds in Fire Stations (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
I have to say that I am surprised to see this question here, and it can only have come here because the Chair of the Authority has chosen to brief her colleagues on this. This matter is being debated, I thought, through the Chair's Coordinating Group which is normally a confidential body while options are discussed. Will the Chair confirm that there is no dispute that there are clearly variable natures of work between night and day? The crucial point is to establish that on the night shift there is no question of people being paid to sleep on the...
  • London Resilience Funding (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Geoff Pope
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Given the stonewalling, would you support the creation of a cross-party delegation, including the Mayor, to take this issue forward to lobby the Government and to generally raise awareness of the issue in relation to London and Londoners?
  • London Resilience Funding

    • Reference: 2006/0313-1
    • Question by: Geoff Pope
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
In 2007/08, LFEPA will experience a £6.9M black hole in additional London Resilience funding as well as significant other London Resilience financial deficits in other years. When will the Government recognise the unique need to protect its capital city from major incidents and fund this shortfall?
  • Vehicle Replacement

    • Reference: 2003/0319
    • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
Why is there a gap in the "rolling replacement " programme between May 2004 and August 2006 when no new vehicles will be supplied? What assurances can you give that LFEPA will be able to negotiate and accelerate the appliance replacement programme to shorten this 14 month gap with Asset Co? .
  • Pensions

    • Reference: 2003/0320
    • Question by: Sally Hamwee
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
What steps are you taking to ensure that the increasing budget cost associated with pensions are fully covered by the government and not by London residents through the Council Tax precept? .
  • Southwark Training Centre

    • Reference: 2003/0321
    • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
Bearing in mind the very limited funds available in this year's LFEPA budget for Capital Projects, will you ensure that no decision is taken to begin any further construction work at the Southwark Training centre site and that a full business case including the in-depth analysis of alternative locations is undertaken before the enlarged Breathing Apparatus charging facility is sited at Southwark? .
  • Sickness levels

    • Reference: 2003/0322
    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
Why has the Authority's sickness absence remained so stubbornly high, despite being highlighted by Her Majesty's Inspectorate over a year ago as one of the worst in the country? .
