Can I open this session by putting the question to both of you: what are the key learning points and the next steps arising from the recent public disorder incidents in London? Can I ask the Acting Commissioner to start?

I would like initially to thank you, Commissioner, for ensuring that the borough commanders in my part of London were able to, by having a show of strength, prevent any trouble in any of the boroughs which I represent, and I thank him for that. The question I would like to ask is probably one for Kit. Mr Mayor, you have just been asked about the relationship between yourself and ATOC on matters of the Freedom Pass and the costs. This morning London Councils has flagged up - and you may have seen it in its newsletter - its worries about ATOC asking for extra money to pay for the Freedom Pass. Now, Caroline [Pidgeon] was asking about 24 hours as I understood it but, apparently, ATOC is asking for more money for the Freedom Pass in any case when it is used on the mainline services. So you are telling the Assembly that, simply based on the information that you held in your records, on the assumption that all of your records were complete, you were able to come to a conclusion with regard to what Brenda Stern said, that as far as you were concerned there is no case to answer? Would not the obvious thing for you to have done have been to go to the source of the allegations? Is that not an elementary thing to do? Why did you limit your investigation just to the material which you say that you hold?

Given that both the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrat Party only want to build half a Thames Gateway bridge I think it is quite reasonable there should be a lively discussion on the issue! I think in both cases they like the northern part, but not the southern part. That is politics for you! Would you agree that you are the greenest Local Authority Leader in the country and that green voters should celebrate the fact that they have voted for you in the past and should think hard before supporting another candidate in the future?
