I wanted to react to a point that Jenny Jones (AM) made and to then ask a question because I feel very disheartened that she feels that nothing is happening, as Jenny said, on Green Grids, particularly when Darren (Johnson, AM) told me during the budgetary process that agreement with the Mayor would get things done rather than agreement with the Assembly on the budgetary process. Is Jenny right when she says that nothing is being done on Green Grid?

I am always very pleased to hear positive comments about Croydon. I met with the wardens myself when I was out engaging with the good people of New Addington on Saturday afternoon. There is a very strong head of steam growing amongst business in South London worried about the Mayor's Draft Plan. Businesses in South London are concerned that the London Plan seems to indicate that an unbalanced approach is being taken over land use. They are very concerned that too much land will be used for housing, leaving little space available for expansion of the business sector. What advice can you give to the Mayor to offset this concern ? .
  • Sutton Borough Council UDP (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Andrew Pelling
    • Meeting date: 11 December 2002
Can I ask, is the presumption, therefore, that's made by the Mayor's Office that negotiation is always the best way on these plans, and do you think that any sanction will ever have to be used? I guess in many ways, we are all asking this question in different ways, with a number of questions on housing about delivering on targets. But in reality, is it persuasion? Is that the best approach?

The Mayor's London Plan continues to predict that a growing number of commuters will be travelling from outer London into central London. Do you feel that this is a sustainable approach to take? Would, for instance, more support of major District centres such as Sutton and Croydon perhaps encourage a more sustainable growth for London, with two-way commuting taking place? .
