I wanted to pick up on the issue of the budget and ask the Chairman, will you be proposing to the Mayor another rise in LFEPA's take on the precept this year?

OK. I want to go back, Commissioner, to the point about fire safety and fires in London, which you mentioned there. The latest performance figures clearly show that the number of serious fires have been rising over the last year across the capital; we have seen an increase in fires in dwellings by around 7% and an increase in non-domestic fires around 17% which is concerning, given the trends previously. We are now seeing it reversed. What changes are you going to make to respond to this worrying trend?

Occasionally we have a lively exchange but let us keep to matters of professional interest here. What insights did the report give you when it described you as being too confrontational? What did you take away from that?

Why have you offered up more savings for the financial year 2009/10 than the Mayor was seeking in his budget guidance issued earlier this Autumn?

I am not down to speak but I am just intrigued how you reconcile your rather bombastic style as Chair with the need for you to preside over a fire authority which is multi-party and which no party will have a majority and, therefore, you need to rule through a consensus? Do you lie awake at night thinking about this? I am sure you do not.
