  • Infrastructure recovery (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Richard Barnes
    • Meeting date: 08 December 2004
Prior to the election, I was a member of that Gold group, and I know how I was going to be ferried in to whichever point was possible. It is not always possible to get in to Scotland Yard, but there will be that gap when the international media are absolutely, totally hungry for news, as will be Londoners and the rest of the UK. Someone has to fill that gap, and I am asking, 'who?'
  • Step Change and Public Expectations

Given the overwhelming public demand for more community based police patrolling on foot, will the step-change programme prove sufficient to meet public expectations? .
  • Safer Tube Stations (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Richard Barnes
    • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Can I ask about some of the deep stations and safety on them? How are you going to ensure passenger safety on the deep stations when Metropolitan Police officers are out of radio contact when they go down there? You do not have to go very deep to be out of contact, such as at St James's which is only two flights of stairs. Also, London Fire Brigade is not contactable below ground in these stations and negotiations have gotten nowhere over the last two and a half years.
