One of my roles is as Chair of London Food, which is a Mayoral Commission, and we are trying to reduce London's ecological footprint. One of the legacy aspects of all the work that you are doing now is if we can encourage farmers to start producing food for the Olympics and beyond, local food, that will reduce our carbon emissions, reduce our ecological footprint. Do you feel you have enough advice on that at the moment? Do you feel it is something perhaps you could know more about? It is an issue both of capacity building within British farmers...

So you are guaranteeing that we are seeing no reduction whatsoever in the amount of public open space?

Thank you. David [Higgins] mentioned the size of the Park earlier, but the new planning application does reduce the amount of open space in the Park by the equivalent of 34 football pitches, from 127 hectares to 109 hectares. The application is smaller than the previous one. We are getting a smaller park are we not?

OK, thanks. If I can briefly move on now to sustainability standards? Last month the Mayor told us that now the budget had been agreed, we can expect improvements in the environmental standards for the Olympics. What changes will be made now that you have the money in the budget?

Planned expenditure on the park and venues has risen from £2.4bn to £3.1bn in the last two years. What long-term benefits will Londoners see as a result of this extra money?

I would like to say right up front I am not trying to score any points here, I would just like some progress. I am well aware that my name is on this list of people who have flown on behalf of the Mayor. What weight is given in the planning for whether or not to take trains rather than planes? It is clear that, for example, two people at least have gone to MIPIM [international property event] in Cannes this week, and the LDA automatically booked a flight because apparently you have to book a long way ahead. So...

I have one more question if you do not mind. I suppose what I would like to see is some really positive and clear climate change advantage from each trip; if you are going to fly, then get some real advantage from it. That is the sort of offsetting that I could accept. Are you concerned at the fact that flights by GLA people have increased more than threefold since 2001, because this does not fit with the Climate Change Action Plan? Are you going to reconsider this policy?

I do understand the rationale for what you are doing. However, if you have this cheaper oil it takes the pressure off in a way from looking for other alternatives, whether it is LPG or bio fuels, and this could actually slow down real progress on climate change adaptation.
