  • Dissolution of LFEPA (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Fiona Twycross
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Fiona Twycross AM: I wanted to correct the impression that was given that the way it has been operating at the moment has been simply about opposition Members [on LFEPA] getting at the Mayor. The fact is that the Mayor has insisted on managing by Direction even when there has not been an impasse, including on issues over which there has been cross‑party agreement by LFEPA Members. I just wondered if you could focus a little bit on what impact the Mayor’s insistence on management by Direction has had. To be honest, we have had Directions on all sorts of...
  • Dissolution of LFEPA (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Richard Tracey
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Richard Tracey AM: Chairman, probably this is one for you as the politician of the two of you. The fact is, surely, that government, particularly local government, has been changing very considerably over recent years. That is accepted. The straight point to you: is it not correct that perhaps LFEPA in its current form is out of date and past its sell‑by date, really?
  • New Technology (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Fiona Twycross
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Fiona Twycross AM: We obviously have to make sensible use of resources in the face of cuts. Some of the new technology that could come online is really interesting and will offer exciting possibilities, but do you agree with the Londoner who contacted me yesterday to say that £283,000 for a website rebuild is bordering on scandalous?
  • Outer London Commission's Recommendations (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 18 May 2011
Thank you. Ms Shawcross has the floor for a point of personal explanation because I am sure she will want to tell us she is not an outrider.
  • Mayor's Report

    • Reference: 2002/0790
    • Question by: Trevor Phillips
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. This morning because of the Fire Service dispute, I intend to use my powers under Standing Order 2.40 first to take an item of urgent business, which is a statement from the Chair of LFEPA and to vary the order of business to take that first. I imagine the Mayor, when he arrives, will also want to say something on this matter, as part of his update. What I intend to do is to allow 25 minutes of questions on the Mayor's update during which period questions will also be addressed to the Chair of...
  • Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
Would the Chair of LFEPA accept that from the Liberal Democrats side we have been supportive of the basic position that more money is possible and is justified but only in return for modernised working practices? And if so, will she accept that too few people in the public, in the media, actually understand the extent of the current practices and what is required? Will she agree to make it clearer exactly what changes we are asking for in terms of working practices? Because most people simply do not understand how inflexible they are. As far as the Mayor is...
  • Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
I read in the newspapers that the Bain Report terms of reference were not actually agreed by the union and that they were very unhappy with the terms of the report. Now, the result of the report is absolutely dependent upon the terms that you set at the beginning. Is it true that the union was unhappy with it?
  • Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
Did the FBU have sight of the terms of reference before the review actually started or not?
  • Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [17]

    • Question by: Brian Coleman
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
I wonder if the Chair of LFEPA could outline very briefly the liaison which LFEPA has had with Chief Executives of London boroughs and whether she is satisfied that there is proper and close co-operation between the Fire Authority and London's boroughs in this matter. I understand, particularly, that the Army services will not attend any lift breakdowns, which is presumably an issue for many of our London boroughs with their tower blocks. I wonder if she could also assure the Assembly that arrangements are in place to deal with any possible intimidation by members of the FBU of those...
  • Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [18]

    • Question by: Brian Coleman
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
The Chair of LFEPA has not answered the issue about intimidation and arrangements in place for those staff who wish to work normally and for those non-uniformed staff who wish to carry on with their duties.
