  • Dissolution of LFEPA (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Fiona Twycross
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Fiona Twycross AM: I wanted to correct the impression that was given that the way it has been operating at the moment has been simply about opposition Members [on LFEPA] getting at the Mayor. The fact is that the Mayor has insisted on managing by Direction even when there has not been an impasse, including on issues over which there has been cross‑party agreement by LFEPA Members. I just wondered if you could focus a little bit on what impact the Mayor’s insistence on management by Direction has had. To be honest, we have had Directions on all sorts of...
  • Dissolution of LFEPA (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Richard Tracey
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Richard Tracey AM: Chairman, probably this is one for you as the politician of the two of you. The fact is, surely, that government, particularly local government, has been changing very considerably over recent years. That is accepted. The straight point to you: is it not correct that perhaps LFEPA in its current form is out of date and past its sell‑by date, really?
  • New Technology (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Fiona Twycross
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Fiona Twycross AM: We obviously have to make sensible use of resources in the face of cuts. Some of the new technology that could come online is really interesting and will offer exciting possibilities, but do you agree with the Londoner who contacted me yesterday to say that £283,000 for a website rebuild is bordering on scandalous?
  • Stop and Search

    • Reference: 2012/0023-2
    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 31 May 2012
The Commissioner has said that he wants a new approach to stop and search. He told the Metropolitan Police Authority last year that he hoped to have a new policy in place for the New Year, and he told us last time he was here that that is still his view, but that there would be some consultation with communities and with ourselves and the stakeholders about that new approach. We have not heard of any consultation at the moment on what the new approach is, so could you just let us know firstly what the timescales are, what steps...
  • Stephen Lawrence Inquiry

    • Reference: 2012/0011-2
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 March 2012
Yes, I do have some questions about the flawed police investigation that followed the fatal stabbing of Stephen Lawrence 19 years ago. I am sure I am not the only one but I just would like to say that so many people who have, if you like, been associated by just their feelings of sympathy and empathy with the family over the years would have been in a state of shock on reading that article. I would just like the Deputy Commissioner to say, if possible, what has been the response from the service to this article and this article...
  • Babar Ahmad

    • Reference: 2012/0012-2
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 08 March 2012
Jenny Jones (AM): It is really difficult to know where to start. This has been going on for eight and a half years now and that is a long time in human terms, in Metropolitan Police Service terms of course it is just a click of the fingers. I think I first wrote to the Chief Executive, I cannot remember, it might have been 2004, about this when Mr Ahmad actually approached me, and it just seems to be so turgid, the whole process, that the Metropolitan Police Service is constantly to be forced to do anything about this. You...
  • Hate Crime

    • Reference: 2012/0014-2
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 March 2012
Jennette Arnold OBE (AM): I have a few questions. I wonder, Kit, if I can ask you in your role as Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime what assessment you plan to make of the MPS' strategy and policy to address hate crime? I say that given this, I think, quite large increase of 7.6% around disability crime offences that we can see on the performance figures that you have given to us. Also, I just wanted to focus as well on hate crime and crimes against older people, because the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) February 2012 report shows an...
  • Jack Lemley (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Dee Doocey
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
Thank you. My last question is about the budget. I understand that the budget has not been finalised, but you should surely realise that the reason we have so much concern around here is because we have not got any information. The job we are being paid to do is to monitor the delivery of the Games. We cannot actually monitor it if we do not have the budget, because we do not know whether you are going above it or below it. Now you have said that the budget that you have asked for is significantly higher than the...
  • Jack Lemley (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Dee Doocey
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
I would like to know what plans are in place to make sure that the same mistakes do not happen again when there is a new Chairman appointed. I think it is very clear, certainly to me, that Mr Lemley has done much more damage to his own reputation by his extraordinary behaviour since he left, than could ever have been done by the involvement with the Games. I wanted to know how it was going to be made sure that whoever is appointed next time, and whoever is going to appoint them - presumably the Mayor and the Secretary...
  • Jack Lemley (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Bob Neill
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
I might have to ask elsewhere. Let us get it in context. We now know that he had expressed concerns - I think was your phrase - that the project was not on track. This is not a rogue member of the Board, this is the person who is the Chair of the Authority expressing those concerns. What specifically were the concerns that he raised?
