  • Opening Statement (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Brian Coleman
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2008
Lord Coe, you mentioned sponsorship and your level-two agreement with Cadbury. Which of Cadbury's products support the healthy living agenda of the Olympics? Jenny Jones (AM): Good question!
  • Opening Statement (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2008
I hesitate to come in but it is always nice to follow the flat earth wing of the Tory Party. Would you not agree that a different interpretation of the sponsorship issue is that the Olympics must grandstand British business if at all possible, and be used to highlight our success, and that we should celebrate that? Indeed, if we wanted to be pernickety about this we could highlight the fact that historically Cadbury, I think, come from a Quaker background and they actually have a very strong history in terms of ploughing the furrow of early social concern as...

    • Meeting date: 19 November 2008
This is not my attempt to get the gold medal for bean counting but you gave us an update on the sponsorship - Paul mentioned the ticket revenues - but the big cash cow is really TV revenue. My experience out in Beijing was certainly that the Chinese are hooked on Olympic gold and I dare say China Central Television (CCTV), Chinese national TV, will pay quite a big price for the rights in London 2012. In some ways we are fortunate to be in this position with two markets: North America and the Chinese market. Given they only paid...
  • Opening Statement (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2008
Richard Barnbrook (AM): Good morning, Lord Coe and Paul Deighton. Could you assure the Assembly here that all of the Olympic Games will be available on terrestrial television and not cherry-picked by subscribers on a pay-per-view service?
  • Budget and Venues Update (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Bob Blackman
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
Can I just ask Mary about the LDA's perspective. The Memorandum of Understanding has been renegotiated. We have heard the assurances today about budgets but we clearly do not know what the position will be when we get the final outturn on everything. Have you got any concerns that the Government might withdraw revenue for support grant, for example, from the GLA to compensate for any cost overruns?
  • Budget and Venues Update (Supplementary) [33]

    • Question by: Bob Blackman
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
In the event that there are major cost overruns, you have not put this into your risk assessment of the project, that we would lose money as an authority from the Government in direct relation to any cost overruns that take place?
  • Budget and Venues Update (Supplementary) [39]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
Even when there is going to be an expanding TV market?
  • Crossrail v LDA (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
Yes, you are absolutely right. London generates an enormous amount of wealth - according to the London Chamber of Commerce about £13 - £20 billion - which is then taken by the Government and used to subsidise the rest of the country, if not Scotland. We can certainly do with more money. As far as Crossrail is concerned, the Mayor has said that is probably the most important project, even more important than the Olympics. Nevertheless, the Government still found themselves with a shortfall of over £300 million and turned to the City to stump up yet more money in...
  • Priorities for the Coming Year (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Dee Doocey
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
OK, and the final thing; I know I threw so many questions at you, but will the targeted offer be distributed to small groups with multiple needs?
  • Priorities for the Coming Year (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Dee Doocey
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
My key concern is that it is not a scattergun approach that it goes to a lot of schemes but that it is targeted on very specific small schemes where it can actually do some good. Thank you.
