My question is, what remuneration will the members of the London Transition Board and London Recovery Board be receiving for their service?

    Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM: My questions are to start off with to John O’Brien. I want to ask about support for businesses in London, with a particular focus on the restaurant industry. According to data from the Office for National Statistics, as of July last year there were nearly 16,000 restaurants in London employing around 325,000 people. Clearly, the sector has been hit very hard by COVID-19. Data showed in March, before the pandemic had fully hit, that 71% more food and accommodation businesses closed this March than they had in the previous March. John, I wonder if you could...

    Léonie Cooper AM: My first question is to David Bellamy and it is about the balance between lives and livelihoods. Many politicians and commentators have portrayed the journey out of lockdown as a trade-off between the economy and health and between lives and livelihoods. Do you agree that this is a false distinction and that there cannot really be a full economic recovery without the public being confident that going about daily life is safe?

    Further to your reply to MQ 2018/5146 where you stated there there were 71 bus collisions involving pedestrians between 1 January 2016 and 30 November 2018 at designated pedestrian crossings. Can an explanation be provided as to why the severe collision involving Saba Mirza on the 25 November 2016 was not listed, despite this collision leading to a trial at City of London Magistrates’ Court, was widely reported in the media and was also raised by myself in the earlier MQ 2018/1317.

    You have still not answered MQ 2018/3001 from November of last year which highlighted that your previous answers to MQs 2018/2595, 2018/2596 and 2018/2597 failed to provide an answer as to whether Transport for London (TfL) will take any action to ensure that bus drivers, including trainee drivers, who were not paid the London Living Wage for any period of time since 2009 are retrospectively compensated. Will you finally answer the question as to whether TfL has taken this action, and if not will you instruct it to finally do so?

    Are you satisfied that no London bus drivers are working excessively long hours which might lead to unsafe driving? Please set out the procedures Transport for London follows to ensure that all bus contractors enforce at the very least the legal restrictions on the maximum hours that bus drivers can work.

  • Changes to bus routes

    Following recent consultations on changes to bus routes such as in Croydon town centre a concern has been raised by some residents that contracts for altered and shortened bus routes have already been made before the consultation has been completed and assessed by Transport for London. Please respond to these serious concerns.
