    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
On the Thames Gateway development issues, you said you have not specifically commented on the flood risk issue. Could I ask that LFEPA does look at the recommendations from the Assembly's Environment Committee that the plans be rigorously tested?
  • Responding to Flooding (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Even if that is not going to be a statutory function, obviously there is a direct pressure that flood risk places on LFEPA's activities. Should you not be pressing for stronger planning policies to limit new development in high-risk flood areas, and actually really take a key part in this debate about Thames Gateway?
  • Role of Education, Training & Employment in Lifting People out of Poverty (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 19 July 2006
Picking up on Kate (Green)'s point about more joined-up thinking on targets and so on, in linking with other strategies, in 2003 the GLA Consultation Tackling Poverty in London had a number of recommendations including the commitment to assess GLA policies and strategies for their contribution to poverty reduction and to produce an annual Poverty Monitoring Report on the success of GLA interventions. Can I ask John why these recommendations were not carried out?

There's nothing wrong with leading questions, I think Kate (Green) very helpfully put it on the agenda; I am just exploring this line of inquiry.

  • Low Emissions Zones (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
Can I ask also about other environmental measures that you have in other fire stations? I understand that you have got lots of little projects and I was wondering whether there was any thought about pulling them all together and having a real drive on this issue.
  • Initiatives for young and elderly (Supplementary) [13]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
I would really like to welcome the emphasis on prevention and the work that you are doing in this area. You could not give Diana the exact details of the budget. Given that this is a growing area in terms of emphasis, is the overall percentage budget in terms of this prevention work growing?
  • Initiatives for young and elderly (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
But if you are actually providing equipment to vulnerable people - smoke alarms, etc. " there are budget implications to that. How are you going to overcome some of the political and institutional pressures in terms of this being vital work, but is not particularly glamorous or high-profile? There is always the danger that softer budget issues like this get trimmed.
  • Fire Boats (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Noel Lynch
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
I must say that I thought the fireboats were good value for money. How can we encourage fire-fighters to work in London, given the high costs of living?
