  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [22]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. Deputy Mayor, because I used my earlier time allocation to put forward the views of New City College, who are based all over London and do some fantastic work, I have a couple of supplementary questions. One of the things that the Mayor has long called for is the ability for London to have an occupation shortages list. Have you had conversations with the Government about this? Where are the talks? Can you remind us how this would assist London’s skills gap? This is about the occupation shortages list.

  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Zack Polanski
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Zack Polanski AM: Jules, as Deputy Mayor, I want to ask you a few questions about people seeking asylum. It is something you mentioned in your introductory remarks. First of all, just to applaud, really, that this is an important part of the work of the AEB. Now, I know that there has been a lot of focus on improving coordination of English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Could I ask what other types of course that you are looking to do, or are doing, for people seeking asylum?

Marina Ahmad AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning, panel, great to see you here. Deputy Mayor, as you know, we are now predicted, very sadly, to be going into a recession and the associated high unemployment that will come with that. Through the AEB, how is the GLA going to support Londoners through what is going to be a turbulent time?
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Hina Bokhari
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Hina Bokhari AM: Morning. I would like to start off with what value you have added to Londoners by using the Mayor’s delegated powers on adult education over the next year. What will you be adding, value‑wise?
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Onkar Sahota
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Dr Onkar Sahota AM: Deputy Mayor, the Mayor has called for devolution of the 16 to 18 education budget. Can you provide an update and whether you are asking for this delegation to be devolved further for 16 to 18‑year‑olds?
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Joanne McCartney AM: Thank you. My first question is to Jules. You mentioned earlier you had given a funding uplift to FE providers, which I know was very welcome, but in no way is it going to offset the rises in inflation, particularly in energy bills, for example. If further funding is not given by central Government, what are the possible outcomes that could mean for FE providers and students in the city?
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Lord Bailey of Paddington

  • Question and Answer Session: Functional Bodies - London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Sakina Sheikh
    • Meeting date: 11 November 2021
Sakina Sheikh AM: It is great to have you here to be reflecting on what has been achieved by the corporations. Myself and my colleagues will be spending the next couple of hours drilling down into some of the details to ensure some of the fantastic things that you have outlined hold tight in their validity, which I am sure they do, but we welcome more detail.I wanted to open something slightly broader and talk about the transition in terms of planning powers. I would like you to outline in as much detail as possible how the LLDC will ensure...
  • Question and Answer Session: Functional Bodies - London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Hina Bokhari
    • Meeting date: 11 November 2021
Hina Bokhari AM: I am going to talk about the topical and serious issue of sewage. In 2019, raw sewage flowed from a Thames Water overflow pipe into the wetlands, running into the canal and the River Lea on the Olympic Park a staggering 91 times over 1,026 hours. There are now reports of raw sewage once again pouring into the Park’s water network, flowing from the recent heavy rains. Not only does this hit the reputation of the Park as a welcoming, clean and attractive place, but the wetlands particularly were intended to be an eco-friendly area for animal...
