  • Range of Housing (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 24 October 2007
It is very good to see a clear commitment in the Housing Strategy, not just to deal with these issues of supply/quantity, but also address issues of quality. Perhaps one issue that Dee has left out of that long list of points about diverse supply etc, is the question of lifetime homes. Now, there was very clear statement in the London Plan, and it is here again in the Housing Strategy, that we would like basically to see all new homes meet a lifetime home standard and we would like to see a significant number - 10%, I think -...
  • Range of Housing (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 24 October 2007
Do you think the Mayor would be interested in seeing the housing association sector restructured somewhat in London, to avoid some of the problems of lack of economies of scale and fragmentation that we see at the moment that undermine the quality of housing and estate management?
  • Crystal Palace Park

    • Reference: 2005/0375-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
How has the Olympic decision affected plans for Crystal Palace Park and Sports Centre, what are your views of the plans and proposals about to be published by the LDA?
  • Charitable/Not for Profit Organisations (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2005
Looking at it in a more positive way, rather than a negative descriptive way, do you think that the Assembly's work and our own work not just on committees but as individual constituency Members could actually benefit sometimes from taking a more cohesive look at how to promote equality and have a more balanced outreach programme in relating to Londoners in all their diversity? The point I am putting to you is that we seem to be very well developed on the core GLA side and much less systematic in terms of promoting equalities through our outreach work on the...
  • Charitable/Not for Profit Organisations (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2005
Since the Assembly costs Londoners £8 million, do you think that significant resource should be subject to some sort of equalities review?
  • Charitable/Not for Profit Organisations (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2005
As I think we would all agree, you said there is actually quite a tight mechanism of control in place not just for charity events but for a whole range of bookings and use of facilities at City Hall when they essentially involve a mayoral mandate or a mayoral activity. The GLA Act does give all of us, including the Assembly, some imperative to seek to promote equality of opportunity in London. How do you therefore compare the Assembly's relative lack of control in terms of our activity with not-for-profit organisations and the voluntary sector and your own activity? Do...

  • Junction dangers in Southwark

    • Reference: 2004/0065-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 January 2004
A new local constituent has contacted me about their very real concerns about poor road safety in the area of Southwark around Borough and London Bridge tube stations. He told me 'I am very surprised at the lack of green/red man crossings at many very busy roads. Especially now that it is getting dark earlier again, and is thus dark during the evening rush hour, I'm certainly finding walking home quite dangerous at times.' I've contacted Southwark Council about this; they reported that there had been 112 accidents in the last 36 months, just around Borough tube; and 12 just...
  • 24-Hour Cycle Lanes

    • Reference: 2004/0047-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 January 2004
Often cycle lanes are along single yellow lines, which then become preferred parking lanes in the evening. Also many cycle lanes stop suddenly, leaving cyclists stranded on pavements or on busy roads. To guarantee the safety of cyclists, lanes need to become 24hrs and continuous. Have you looked at introducing 24 hour cycle lanes on principal cycle routes?" .
  • Tesco Development on the A24 opposite Clapham South Tube

    • Reference: 2004/0058-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 14 January 2004
In April 2003 there was an exchange of correspondence between TfL and Clapham South Neighbourhood Assn. Since that time the residents have not been briefed on the progress of the highway aspects of the scheme being discussed between TfL and Tesco's consultants. As you may be aware the whole development is the subject of considerable and long standing conflict between the community and Tescos. However, at this stage the residents are concerned with the traffic impact of the scheme which is going ahead, and that the design of the access to the store and adjacent junctions should function with maximum...
