Local committees under the ODA, did you say earlier?

Is there a declared date for that to happen, or is this going to be a gradual process? We have already heard that the position over the land acquisition is not completely clear and is in a process of negotiation.

Would you not agree that we have five layers of bureaucracy already in this structure chart that we have seen? That is before some of these organisations come into being. There is also a tremendous amount of confusion ' certainly in our minds ' as to what these various different bodies are going to do. It therefore suggests that it is going to be difficult, if not impossible, for this Assembly to properly scrutinise this work. The suggestion is very clear that the attempt is being made to obscure the whole thing, so that if and when anything goes wrong...

Mr Mayor, can we come back to the issue of, then, what is the role of the LDA in all this, and where do they fit in the reporting structure?

How does that differ, then, from the Olympic Steering Group?
  • Olympic Organisations (Supplementary) [8]

Thank you, Mr Mayor. I have studied the organisation plan here, and it does tend to look rather confused. Perhaps you can help clarify some of that confusion, because clearly we have a structure that we need to understand, so that we can scrutinise what work is being done. Can you tell me what the ODA board is actually going to do?
  • Local Community Interests (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
Sorry, it is not about percentages. It is just: are you saying that there is a commitment and that we will not see boards made up of white men in suits?
  • Local Community Interests (Supplementary) [9]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
It is just a quick one following on from the issues John (Biggs) has raised. This is about representation and perception. The ethnic diversity of London was, quite rightly, acknowledged within the bid, and our presentation team and the inclusion of the athletes made the work to date, if you like, ethnically representative. It does, however, concern me that if you look at the people now lining up to sit in the seats of power ' the ODA, LOCOG, the Olympic Board ' all I expect to see is white men in suits. Are you as concerned as I that...
  • Olympic Legacy (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2005
Thank you for that answer, Mayor, but I have three areas on which I would just like to pin you down. Can I just start with cultural education. I welcome that announcement that you have just made about the commitment following the Games for the maintenance of the Park, because it seems to me that we can judge whether an Olympics was successful in two ways: the gold medals and all their absolute wonder of the sport, and also we judge when we look back at where the Olympic Games were held, and what it is like there following the...
