    There are pressures which you face immediately financially with a poorer and poorer settlement, and indeed the issues which are over the horizon - clearly the Olympic Games will be a major issue for the Metropolitan Police Service itself - current pressure on terrorism, and indeed the growing focus on clear up rates - how many crimes are resolved and result in a punishment - that continues to grind.     I suspect you may not be able to answer this question but I think I should ask it, has there been an occasion when BAA or another airport authority has said, `You are over-egging the pudding, you are providing us with an excessive level of protection given the risks that we perceive that we have'?

    The Police and Justice Bill - or Act as it very nearly is - will require every local authority to set up a Community Safety Scrutiny Committee which again will add to the complexities of the local arrangements we are discussing. How do you envisage that fitting in with the arrangements? How will it relate to the police consultative groups for instance?

    I am extremely concerned to hear rumours circulating that the Metropolitan Police plans to close Rotherhithe, Camberwell and East Dulwich police stations within the next few years. Is this the case? And do the MPA and MPS understand the great value that local residents place on their local police stations and that shop fronts open only during business hours would not be an acceptable alternative?
