  • Legacy (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
Thank you, Chair. Before I start, I just want to say that I never in my wildest dreams thought we were going to get to this stage. It is so good that we have made such progress, and I just want to say, "congratulations" to the 2012 team and the LDA. You have done so much work so fast and so professionally, and I think Londoners should be really proud of you. You are a class act, and we deserve to win next year. I am really very pleased with what I have heard today. On the legacy, we have...

    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
Right, so all the legacy arrangements will be tidied up by the middle of next year?
  • Legacy (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
Okay. When the planning committee looked at the plans very early on, there were a number of things that were not tied up. I can hear, from what you have said, there has been a lot of progress on the legacy items. In the context of an Assembly which is largely - we wish it were wholly - but largely supportive of the Olympic bid, can you just say which areas of legacy development have we not made progress on? Where are the gaps, and where are you going to go next to tidy those up?
  • Undertakings made to the British Olympic Committee (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Richard Barnes
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
I know that the Metropolitan Police endeavoured to put £800,000 into its budget for next year, which would have been paid directly for Londoners and not necessarily through that mechanism. What I am seeking is a clear assurance to Londoners where that funding is going to come from. I do not want the Mayor to be grandstanding about his 35,000 police officers.
  • Undertakings made to the British Olympic Committee (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Richard Barnes
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
Barbara Cassani, when she was here, talked about private security. Is that still an option, or will it be from the Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and police officers that normally patrol London being taken across to the Olympics?
  • Undertakings made to the British Olympic Committee (Supplementary) [8]

    • Question by: Richard Barnes
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
Thank you, Mr Mayor. I recognise where you are coming from, but this Government does not actually have a very good track record on delivering things. Can I make it clear that I do support the Olympic Games for London, but I need to be able to argue it for my people in west London. My real question is on the security aspects of it and what assessment has been made of the security risk for London for 2012. Also, how are those security aspects going to be paid for, so that there is an upfront and clear funding for...

    • Question by: Richard Barnes
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
Is that based on pre-9/11 status, or how does it work?

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
When the Planning Scrutiny Committee looked at the plans for the Olympic site earlier this year, it was clear then that the business planning was not yet in place to secure the long term future of the sports facilities which will remain on the site as a legacy of the games. Can you please bring us up to date on what arrangements and plans have now been prepared?
  • Crystal Palace Park

    • Reference: 2004/0282-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2004
I am frequently asked by constituents what role the sports and athletics facilities at Crystal Palace Park will play in the preparation for the Olympics, can you say how improvements at Crystal Palace will help along our Olympic ambitions?
