  • LDA Board Meetings (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2001
I share a number of the concerns that Tony's outlined and if we can perhaps particularly focus on the website. We're supposed to be, as the GLA family, into open government and the web approach was something that was an ethos that the Mayor and others agree is a great way of people having access. However, if you go onto the LDA website it seems, as Tony says, that you control what comes out in terms of press releases and I haven't yet managed to find the minutes on the website. Maybe I'm just not very good at browsing. But...

Can I say I am very happy to see the audit report? I have to say I never actually received my own copy, even though I asked the question originally. I was given a copy by a member of the press. I'm glad we have a free press that somehow gets access to this information. But I was very delighted when the Chair, George Barlow, indicated early on that he was going to seek an internal audit. But this doesn't seem to square with the letter I received from the Chief Executive when I made the initial enquiry about how...

I think we all appreciate the constraints of the SRB project and look forward to the new unveiling of the 'single pot'. What representations have you been making to Government? Because this is £10 million that Londoners will not get spent on them, as you say, unless you can come to a deal with Government. Is there any prospect of that and what discussions are you having?

As a member of a private architecture practice with interests in London, you may have a conflict of interest in developing policies which could benefit your private business. Do you agree ? Do you understand why some of us might have a concern about this? .

Can you make a commitment to the principle of protecting views of St Paul's Cathedral when considering new tall buildings in and around the City? .
  • Strategic Views (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 11 July 2001
Lord Rogers, I was interested in your comments about the strategic views and about some sympathy with perhaps including some more modern views. My concern is I represent Islington and Hackney, and particularly from Islington you get very good views thanks to the protected view of St Paul's Cathedral. For many local residents, especially as you can imagine living on the 12th storey of a tower block, this view is very important. Perhaps going back I think to Angie Bray's point, do you think that - and picking up on John's point - do you think that a modern well...
  • Strategic Views (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 11 July 2001
I am thinking more generally really of the desire to see well designed tall buildings, a cluster of Manhattan type skyscrapers, a Chicago skyline in London. Now for the south of Islington, where lack of green space is a big issue, lack of amenity space is an issue, the view of St Paul's is a very important factor in the quality of life of many of those Londoners, many of the people I represent, and a beautiful skyscraper designed by the Richard Rogers Partnership may also be a wonderful view, but for many I fear that would not be acceptable...
