London has the highest rates of respiratory disease and TB in the UK. There are 237,100 unfit dweliings on London that require major works. (29,630 are borough properties, 8,450 are Housing Association properties and 197,830 are privately owned). How does the GLA intend to work with property owners to bring all dwellings up to a fit standard ? Will GLA ensure all those properties in local authority ownership at least, are brought up to standard by the Governments target date ? .

19% of all households in London live in poor housing stock compared with 13% in England as a whole, and 60% of dwellings in London were built before 1944, compared with only 34% nationally. How does the GLA intend to work with LAs to renew the hosing stock through housing PFI schemes and other mechanisms ? .

There is an estimated 149,000 overcrowded homes in London (a problem 6 times greater than in the rest of the UK.) In some communities average family size is 8 (eg Bangladeshi Muslim community in Tower Hamlets). How does the GLA intend to ensure the mix of housing stock responds to this need, ie generous provision of 3 and 4 bedroom units ? .

This is one of the greatest causes of poor health. London has 64% of the most deprived borough estates in England, and 53% of all London's children live below the poverty line. Surely the GLAs affordable housing targets in the DLP should be revised, such that the majority of units (say 35% of the whole) should cater for the intermediate market, and the minority (say only 15%) should cater for the social housing market ? We need to keep London workin ! .
