Could I ask you one other impossible question to answer then which is when you have finally negotiated with the Treasury your revised budgets for the Olympics, and we agree a sum, will that be a fixed sum which we can be confident to go forward with until 2012?

On the budget issue, we saw environmental and legacy commitments being scaled back in Athens as a result of going over budget. Can you give an absolute guarantee that there will be no scaling back in London from what was promised in the bid documents?

I think that you will have to appreciate our concern about the way the goalposts keep changing. You talked about the cost of the actual buildings being reasonably on track but of course there were no designs costed out, so that suggests to us that the designs are going to cost more than the original costings. There was no VAT, you have quite rightly pointed out. You also keep talking about a revised Masterplan. In his remarks to the Idaho Statesman, Jack Lemley said that political disputes will make the Olympics come in late and over budget. Is he telling the truth, or is he deliberately trying to mislead?

Mr Lemley was also concerned about soaring costs. Given that you are going to the Treasury to ask for extra money for the regeneration that was promised, why was the Olympic Delivery Authority not upfront about the real cost of the promised legacy from the outset?
