  • Cleaning Costs

    • Reference: 2007/0250-1
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
What are the extra costs involved in cleaning tube trains littered with free newspapers? Shouldn't the papers be charged for this?
  • One-way Systems (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
Perhaps, Peter, you would expect me to ask about Tottenham Hale, so I am glad you raised it because the Tottenham Hale gyratory is, quite frankly, appalling. It cuts off the Tube station from any residential area and in fact pedestrians have in fact to negotiate a number of, in effect, dual or triple carriageways in order to get to the station. The points Jenny [Jones] mentioned earlier about the pedestrian experience are extremely important. Can I just ask that in that scheme you look at that very closely and provide a pleasant experience for pedestrians who need to use...
  • One-way Systems (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Joanne McCartney
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
My other question relates to the area around the station where there is going to be quite a high increase in housing. I notice that at Tottenham Wharf, just next door, the land has already been flattened and development will soon be taking place. We are in danger of having thousands of extra units built while the gyratory system is still in its very poor state. I know that you are nearly ready to go out to public consultation on your scheme but it is as yet, I believe, an unfunded scheme. What can be done and is there any...
  • Financial Pressures (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
The overall financial deal which we have now, which allows for £16 billion in total, compares with a figure which was just under £10 billion less than a year ago. Now, I understand that outturn prices and contingency have contributed much to that increase but has there been a further increase which means that there is a larger cost to pay than we were thinking a year ago?
  • South London Rail Services (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
I would want at another time to challenge the argument that it is a necessity that the South London Line services [between Victoria and London Bridge] be removed from that line, but that is a debate I am going to have with your officers in more detail. I just wanted to follow up on this point about franchising. I certainly have seen an enormous improvement in the security in south London stations, including Southern Railways, as a result of CCTV and TfL investment. I think it would be wholly positive if TfL were able to influence issues of customer care...
  • South London Rail Services (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
No, but you sadly supported it in your comments to the Route Utilisation Strategy without having done very much research, it seems to me. That is a debate I will have on Friday; back to the franchising.
  • Stoke Newington Gyratory II (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
Thank you for that, Peter. A couple of things: there is mischief afoot, because it has been said that safety is not one of the criteria used by TfL when looking around reconfiguring a gyratory. From what you are saying, which I thank you for, that is mischief. The other thing, of course, is that you attached a project manager to the Stoke Newington gyratory. We certainly have not received an update recently and I wonder if you could arrange for that to be done so that we can be clear about not the rationale, but the key factors that...
  • Prioritisation of Major Transport Projects (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
Thank you very much indeed. Yes, Peter; perhaps I did ask you to gaze into a crystal ball with that question. You rightly tapped into my main obsession here, which is making sure that there are significant developments in the commuter passenger infrastructure in south London and that these are pushed in the CSR 2010. There has been concern in the minds of the public in my area that the focus on Crossrail ' and I very strongly support Crossrail as a strategic, economic project for London ' has meant that there is anxiety that some of the schemes you...
  • Prioritisation of Major Transport Projects (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
I think that what you could do, Peter, is commit to action. There is no letter, no statement of apology to users. I use this station regularly and where you are providing stair access for the majority of people who can use them, then I think that what people with any sort of disability deserve is a huge apology and a notice saying that.
  • Prioritisation of Major Transport Projects (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 05 December 2007
Peter, all I want to hear is that you want this tram as much as I do. I think that is what I want to hear.
