  • Capacity Enhancement Projects

    • Reference: 2006/0416-1
    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 06 December 2006
Transport 2025 predicts that London's population will grow from 7.5 million today, to 8.3 million in 2025, and that employment will grow from 4.6 million today to 5.5 million in 2025. It is clear that demand at this rate will far outstrip supply. TfL have a long shopping list of capacity enhancement projects, but none of these are funded. What future funding options are available to TfL, and which of these options do you consider the most realistic?
  • East London Transit

    • Reference: 2006/0419-1
    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 06 December 2006
TfL constantly tells us that the East London Transit will be a new mode of transport, quite separate from an ordinary bus route. Yet, upon close inspection of the proposals, it seems that this really is just an upgraded bus route, with a virtually identical number of stops, at a reported cost of £44.7 million. Yet we have not been told how this compares, cost wise, with an ordinary bus route. What would the cost be for an ordinary bus route?
  • Trams Versus Transits

    • Reference: 2006/0420-1
    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 06 December 2006
There is a clear need for major transport improvement in East London and Greenwich, as well as the Thames Gateway. The Mayor has previously stated that a service upgrade from the currently proposed East London Transit and Greenwich Waterfront Transit would be sought in the future, yet TfL's Director of Strategy contradicted that by telling the Transport Committee in June; "we do not see that there will be an upgrade or a change to a different mode of operation." What is the current thinking on whether an upgrade will be sought?

  • Stratford International Station

    • Reference: 2006/0422-1
    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 06 December 2006
Eurostar recently announced that the new channel tunnel rail link will start running from St Pancras station around this time next year. They also confirmed to me that Eurostar services will definitely not be stopping at Stratford International Station in 2007, citing the poor connectivity of the new station and the congestion on the roads around it, which will worsen as construction traffic gets heavier in the run up to the Olympic Games. They stated that they would like to stop there, but will only do so once it makes economic sense. What measures are you taking to ensure that...

    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 06 December 2006
What assessment have you made of the likely financial impacts of the proposed new pricing structure of the congestion charge? Will it be revenue neutral, or will it lose revenue?
