  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Caroline Pidgeon
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM: Thank you very much. Good morning, Mr Mayor and Commissioner. Congratulations on your appointment. I want to focus my questions today on Tube noise and the impact this is having on residents, day and night, in many parts of London, from south Wimbledon to Kennington to King’s Cross. Rail grinding is one of the very few tools that TfL is currently using to try to reduce noise, but internationally there are many innovations in this field. One metro in China has introduced special sleepers that have a wider base then the top, which is shown to...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Caroline Russell
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Caroline Russell AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning to both of you. Commissioner, just last month TfL published an updated Cycling Action Plan. The Cycling Action Plan notes that the fear of collisions and road danger is the most common barrier to cycling. There are still many streets in London with too much fast-moving traffic to be safe for people who are walking and cycling. Many people tell me they are concerned the police are not doing enough to support the victims of road crime, particularly in investigations. Therefore, can you outline the responsibilities of the Road and Transport Policing...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Nick Rogers
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Nick Rogers AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning, Mr Mayor. Good morning, Commissioner. Mr Mayor, yesterday we heard [Mr] Justice Swift tell the High Court that he could make no promises that he would have reached a judgment in the ULEZ expansion judicial review before August, which suggests that he has found the evidence worthy of very serious consideration. That would potentially mean, if the judgment was made on 4 August [2023], that would be just four weeks until the planned expansion date. There are many Londoners, many businesses, many charities, who are waiting on the judgment before making a...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Elly Baker
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Elly Baker AM: Thanks, Chair. Mr Mayor, I would like to ask about the announcement yesterday by train operators backed by the Government that the vast majority of ticket offices on the railway are expected to close and announcing only 21 days for public consultation. Do you think it is right for the Government to be making this decision to close almost all of London’s suburban rail ticket offices given the value of public transport for Londoners, for London’s businesses, and then for the knock-on effect on our wider transport network?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Siân Berry
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Siân Berry AM: Thank you very much, Chair. Mr Mayor, I want to start with you. I want to talk about the weight of traffic there is coming into London. This really is a burden on Londoners’ shoulders, and it particularly affects outer London near our strategic roads, where there is noise and there is pollution. Obviously there are different things causing that traffic, a couple of facts are I asked outer Londoners and they told me, one in four of them, that they felt forced to. n a car because of the lack of public transport services. But there...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Krupesh Hirani
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Krupesh Hirani AM: Thank you, Chair. My question is to the Mayor. You froze all TfL fares under your control for the first four years of your mayoralty and in these last three years the fares have gone up due to requirements in the Government funding deal made with the pandemic. What would you like to do with fares when you are no longer bound by any Government requirements?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Emma Best
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Emma Best AM: Thank you. Good morning. I want to focus particularly on connectivity, and I found it really interesting this conversation on park-and-ride. We have been a pretty lone voice in supporting the Mayor of London’s park-and-rides. We already operate many of them across TfL station car parks. I use one most days and I am glad that it looks like we are not going to be the only ones who have concerns about building over them. Thank you and welcome to the team, Siân [Berry]! My first question probably best for you, Andy, if that is OK. I...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [8]

    • Question by: Onkar Sahota
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Dr Onkar Sahota AM (Deputy Chair): Thank you, Chair. Good morning, Mr Mayor. My question is to you first. What are the consequences of TfL being unable to fully fund their capital programme due to not having a long-term Government funding settlement?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [9]

    • Question by: Keith Prince
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Keith Prince AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor. Good morning, Commissioner. Carrying on from my colleague, Assembly Member [Emma] Best’s question on buses, there is currently a proposal regarding the W12, W13, W14 and the 549. Some of those proposals are good, I have to say, but you are in consultation on those changes, one of which involves deleting one of the services. If the consultation comes back and says that the people are not happy with that, will you give that due consideration or will you just continue with the proposals as set out, Mr Mayor?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [10]

    • Question by: Anne Clarke
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
Anne Clarke AM: Thank you, Chair, and good morning, Mr Mayor and Commissioner. Sadiq, earlier today you were talking about your Transport Strategy which aims for 80 percent of all journeys in London to be made by walking, cycling or public transportation by 2041. I was encouraged to hear the Commissioner note that the way to do that is to make it the most attractive form of travelling. Five years on, should there be a target for share mobility options, and that would include e-bikes, car clubs and carpooling, in order to help Londoners move way from private car use?
