    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 01 December 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. Commissioner, my question is to you. Trust and confidence in the MPS in London is a key issue currently. How are you working to restore the trust of all Londoners? I appreciate that you have partially answered this question in response to the question from the Chair, but can you be more specific and give some examples, especially with regard to regaining the trust of Black Londoners, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Londoners, women Londoners, etcetera ?

    • Meeting date: 01 December 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair, and my question is to both of you. Earlier this year, it was reported that of the 32 terror plots that have been found since 2017, 18 were Islamist-related, whilst 12 were motivated by a far-right ideology, an example of which we saw was the attack on the migrant centre in Dover last month. How is City Hall and the police service in London working with partners to understand and tackle the reasons why people are motivated to commit such acts? Mr Mayor.

Looking back, what do you feel are the key achievements of the 2016 to 2021 Police and Crime Plan?

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 07 February 2019
Unmesh Desai AM: I have two sets of questions to put to you, Mr Mayor, but the Commissioner might wish to come in. My first question is what type of crime on the transport network. The latest crime statistics bulletin shows an “upward trend in violence/serious public order offences on the Tube, DLR and London Underground”. On 18 January [2019] through the media I was told that violent crime on the London Underground has risen by more than 43% in the past three years. Let us put those figures into context. This was not good news, but it should be...
  • TfL - past and future (Supplementary) [13]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2016
Unmesh Desai AM: Mr Mayor, in March 2016 the British Transport Police (BTP) proposed axing its specialist sex crimes unit. Following concerns expressed by you and by others, the proposals have temporarily been halted. In fact, you were very robust in expressing your concerns. I believe that on 2 April 2016 in a speech at Brixton Town Hall you said and I quote: “I was appalled about the recent decision by the BTP to scrap the sexual violence unit. As Mayor, I will take these problems seriously.” The BTP is now undergoing a review of its services and you are...
