  • Affordable Ticket Guarantees (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 14 November 2012
Thank you, Chair. I should say I was singularly unsuccessful in getting any tickets from the LOCOG website for the simple reason that I used a Visa card and had to go somewhere else, but that is not the gripe I am raising. I think there is a concern about how many tickets the corporate sponsors got on the blue ribbon events. Could you inform us how many they did get during the blue ribbon events, given that the financial contribution from them was actually smaller than that made by council taxpayers and general taxpayers?
  • Lessons Learned from Beijing (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2008
I think, looking back at Beijing, the bar has been put very high, particularly by the athletes. I think we should not forget that something like 43 World Records and 120 Olympic Records were broken, so they certainly felt comfortable. It is probably the best answer for the Beijing bashers who suggested the air pollution may affect their performance; it probably enhanced it. Coming to the spectators' experience, what I found as a foreigner there was that it was actually much easier for me to get hold of a ticket and I think the Olympic Authority should look at their...
  • Temporary Venues (Supplementary) [1]

Seb, it appears Jacques Rogge [IOC President] has changed his position on the Olympic Stadium. Does that put you in a difficult position?
  • Opening Statement (Supplementary) [4]

This is not my attempt to get the gold medal for bean counting but you gave us an update on the sponsorship - Paul mentioned the ticket revenues - but the big cash cow is really TV revenue. My experience out in Beijing was certainly that the Chinese are hooked on Olympic gold and I dare say China Central Television (CCTV), Chinese national TV, will pay quite a big price for the rights in London 2012. In some ways we are fortunate to be in this position with two markets: North America and the Chinese market. Given they only paid...
  • Budget and Venues Update (Supplementary) [39]

Even when there is going to be an expanding TV market?
  • Legacy (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2006
I just wanted to ask a question about the physical legacy on the Olympic site. You mentioned earlier that there would be state-of-the-art Paralympic facilities in Waltham Forest, which is great and something we could do with in London, but it appears to be being done at the cost of some playing fields being lost, cricket pitches and football pitches. I am not sure how that is being accommodated. What I really want is some reinstatement of those facilities for local people in the locality. I have been approached by a number of people - the local sporting community and...
  • BME Communities (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2006
In reality there are two models in the procurement process. There is the one that TfL have used in the East London Line which is, I suspect, the best one we can do within British legislation and then the model often cited of the Atlanta Olympics which I think was more problematic. I just wanted to know the extent to which you have worked with TfL to appreciate how they have made those adjustments in their procurement process to take on board BME businesses.
  • Sponsorship (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2006
With the sponsorship and broadcasting rights, given that we are the next Olympics after the Beijing Olympics, I think we are in a very good position because we are going to have the whole of China hooked on Olympic gold I expect after 2008. I just wanted to be clear about your position with the IOC on the broadcasting revenues. I think actually the best position to take is a percentage rather than a set amount, because I can clearly see the North American and the Chinese channels competing. We may have to think of the implications and the timetabling...
  • Sponsorship (Supplementary) [8]

I think all I am saying is that the cake is going to be a lot bigger after Beijing.

What tangible steps are you putting in place to ensure that BME communities fully participate in the procurement process for services to deliver and run the Games?
