  • Oxford Street Christmas Lights

    • Reference: 2004/1928
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Can the mayor tell us when Oxford Street will be getting its Christmas lights this year? At the moment there are just a couple of searchlights from an old POW camp.
  • TfL

    • Reference: 2004/1944
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
At MQT on 20th October, you said that "you cannot get much beyond what we are expecting people to pay" on Underground fares. TfL's Five Year Plan states that if fares don't rise above inflation, other charges must be raised further to compensate. Does this mean that you plan to raise bus fares further to pay for the Underground, or that you plan to raise the Congestion Charge further, to pay for both?
  • Fares

    • Reference: 2004/1910
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
At the MQT on 15th September, you told us that you're having to put fares up because the government didn't give you enough money. According to TfL's five-year investment programme, you have no option but to increase fares - "To ensure that this investment programme can be financed, the Plan is predicated upon above-inflation increases in fares, the congestion charge and other transport-related income". Isn't it the case that you are obliged under the terms of the plan to increase fares, and that it has nothing to do with the government?
  • Houselholders defending themselves against burglars

    • Reference: 2004/1913

  • Responses to Enquiries

    • Reference: 2004/1916
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
At last month's MQT, the mayor promised to look into UKIP's problems with not getting requested information from his office. We still haven't received a reply to our enquiries, which were first put in early October. Can you tell us when we will receive a reply?
  • Mandela statue

    • Reference: 2004/1720
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 17 November 2004
UKIP supports a statue to honour the achievements of Nelson Mandela. The ideal location would be outside South Africa House, next to Trafalgar Square. Why is the Mayor determined to waste £100,000 of public money fighting for the dubious right to place it on the empty plinth in the square itself? Doesn't the Mayor think one Nelson on a plinth in Trafalgar Square is enough?
  • North East Assembly

    • Reference: 2004/1721
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 17 November 2004
The People of the North East have voted NO to an elected Assembly by 78% to 22%. Do you think that, with the benefit of 4 years experience, Londoners might now also agree that the London Assembly as currently constituted is ineffective and a waste of their money?
  • Hanbury Street shaft

    • Reference: 2004/1332
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
Given the considerable local opposition to the Hanbury Street shaft, will the Mayor give an undertaking that he and members of the Crossrail team will meet local representatives from Spitalfields to discuss possible alternatives?
  • EU rules

    • Reference: 2004/1333
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
The Mayor has made reference recently to 'barmy' rules from Brussels. Can he confirm whether he believes that EU rules which prevent offering discounts to local lorries on the planned Thames Gateway Bridge are 'barmy', and will he confirm that nothing can be done to counter EU interference jeopardising promises made as part of a London infrastructure project?
  • Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi

    • Reference: 2004/1190
    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 15 September 2004
Will the Mayor confirm that, if he invites Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi to City Hall again or uses Authority funds for an event at which Mr Al-Qaradawi is a speaker, he will get confirmation that Mr Al-Qaradawi does not share certain views attributed to him namely: a)that it is acceptable for men to beat their disobedient wives b)that acting homosexuals should be put to death and further, that Mr Al-Qaradawi condemns those who hold or propagate such views.
