    Noel Lynch (AM): In your opening remarks you mentioned the TV images and the predominance of attacks on older people, when in actual fact it is most towards young people. Of course, the problem now is that over 50% of over 75s are afraid to leave their houses because they are afraid of getting attacked. What can you do to allay their fears?

    I wanted to give either the Commissioner or the Chair an opportunity perhaps to amend a false impression that has been created in the media recently that the police are in some way opposed to traffic calming. Certainly my post-bag tells me that this is an issue that people are very anxious about in the community; I think Jenny is absolutely right about that. Secondly, where boroughs seem in my view to be ill-advisedly removing traffic calming, might the police take a view as to whether those boroughs are being unhelpful in their role of protecting public safety.
