  • Vegetation Removal in Pinner

    • Reference: 2021/1182
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 18 March 2021
I have been contacted by constituents regarding removal of vegetation trackside in Pinner. According to residents, they received no advance warning of this work, which has had an impact on animal habitats. Can you provide full details as to why this work, in this specific area was carried out and whether residents were given notice of this work. Are there plans to mitigate the damage that this work has caused to the environment, but also the potential for greater noise disturbance from Met Line trains?
  • OPDC – Wormwood Scrubs

    • Reference: 2020/4027
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2020
HS2’s own research recognises the ecological importance of Wormwood Scrubs, but the HS2 proposes a scheme that would divert a sewer into the protected ‘Local Nature Reserve’ and ‘Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation’ of Wormwood Scrubs. Campaigners are seeking urgent intervention by local authorities and MPs to try and stop devastation of ecology. What is your and OPDC’s position on this issue and can you join forces to support this important cause?
  • Tree Felling on Tube Lines

    • Reference: 2020/2435
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 16 July 2020
What is TfL’s approach to protecting trees and greenery alongside tube tracks? Under what circumstances are trees removed, and what is the consultation process with residents who live alongside tracks?
  • Toxic Air around schools

    • Reference: 2019/17738
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 12 September 2019
A resident has raised an issue about the pollution around their area during weekdays caused during schools runs, particularly idling cars. The school also allows for its grounds to be rented for event-day parking, this contributing to pollution during weekends. The resident is particularly concerned about the poor air quality for children in the area and would like to know what is being done/can be done to reduce the use of cars for school runs, idling and the impact of these on the local communities in which schools are situated.
  • ULEZ and Black cabs

    • Reference: 2019/9311
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 16 May 2019
I welcome the introduction of ULEZ last month which will improve the air quality of our city. However, how do you respond to my constituent concerns that black cabs which are responsible for 25% of the NOx pollution in the city, are exempt from the scheme?
  • Chamberlayne Road (Brent) Air Quality.

    • Reference: 2019/3994
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
In response to my previous question about air quality at Chamberlayne Road in Brent, you referred to the positive changes being made to Transport for London's diesel buses and that all the buses using Chamberlayne Road now meet the "standard" set by TfL regarding bus emissions. However, there are concerns that this may not significantly reduce Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) levels along Chamberlayne Road, particularly around the Ark Franklin Academy which is one of the 50 schools identified as being one of the worst polluted schools on London's most polluted roads in the Mayor of London's Air Quality Audit of schools...
  • Two Brent schools found to have illegal air pollution levels

    • Reference: 2018/1678
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 21 June 2018
I welcome the first of 50 air quality audits you have carried out across London. I was concerned to see that your audit revealed that children in two primary schools in my constituency (Borough of Brent) are routinely exposed to illegal levels of pollution. What measures do you plan to put in place in collaboration with Brent Council to improve the quality of air being breathed by pupils at John Keble in Harlesden and Ark Franklin in Kensal Rise?
  • Public Energy Company

    • Reference: 2018/0924
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 22 March 2018
Disappointment is expressed in my constituency in what is described as the Mayor reneging on his pledge to set up a public energy company for London and disinvest in fossil fuels. What is the justification for the change of heart that I can convey to my stakeholders? Is there any chance of an ambitious fully licensed public energy company that can take effective and meaningful action on fuel poverty?
  • Visit to India and Pakistan - Delhi's Toxic Air (4)

    • Reference: 2018/0291
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 18 January 2018
Quite rightly you've raised your concerns during your visit to India about toxic air in Delhi, a city of some 25 million residents, where the smog this year has forced schools to close, flights to be cancelled and even badly affecting some players on the field during the India v Sri Lanka test match. The pollution is so bad that 'breathing is apparently akin to smoking 50 cigarettes a day'. Braving the smog you made an announcement of a new air quality partnership to help cities like Delhi. Please explain the strategy and time frame to make effective and speedy...
  • Zero Pollutant Smart City

    • Reference: 2017/4622
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 16 November 2017
I have been contacted by a resident who has asked me to ask you if you will 'commit to an audacious, almost impossible goal - namely commit London to becoming a "zero pollutant smart city" by 2025 and then kick start the process by creating a visionary collaboration between London's public and private sectors?'
