How confident you are that the new transport patrols carried out by a new ‘Project Servator’ team will prevent an attack in London given a warning that investigations are at a record high? What part can Londoners play in this for their own safety?

    • Reference: 2021/0381
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 21 January 2021
Met Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu has recently said that online radicalisation has got worse during the pandemic and police are really concerned about that. • Stop and Search

    • Reference: 2020/4032
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2020
The IOPC’s review of Stop and Search brought up a number of concerning issues. I was glad to see the Met Police accept all recommendations made by this review. However, will you continue to use your voice to encourage the police to do all they can to establish trust with the Black community in London, who are disproportionately affected by Stop and Search?
  • Police Body Worn Video Footage

    • Reference: 2020/4033
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2020
A leaked report revealed that the Met decided not to routinely release Body Worn Video footage, due to examples of “poor communication, a lack of patience, [and] a lack of de-escalation before use of force is introduced”. Further on in this leaked report, a senior police officer states that releasing footage of this kind could “exacerbate not prevent ‘trial by social media’ and increase media interest in an incident.” Do you think this is appropriate, or do you think the Met has a responsibility to release this footage?
  • Police attending Mental Health Crises

    • Reference: 2020/4034
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 19 November 2020
There has been a 41% increase in police being called out to help with mental health emergencies. Police involvement in these kinds of incidents can be harrowing on the person in need of help and specialist mental health care is what is needed. Will you call on the Government to provide more funding for frontline mental health services, which will no doubt be under more pressure due to Covid-19?

    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 16 July 2020
Two sisters, Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman were murdered in my constituency in early June. This tragic event was shocking enough to the local community, but now we have been horrified to hear that two police officers have been arrested for allegedly taking inappropriate photos at the scene. Will you join me in condemning these actions?
  • Murders of Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman (2)

    • Reference: 2020/2426
    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 16 July 2020
The mother of the two sisters, Mina Smallman, has raised other concerns about the police handling of this case. She states that the police failed to respond quickly enough when the two women went missing, leading to family and friends taking on the search themselves. She points towards a culture of institutional racism that remains in the police force. In light of this event and the stories we have seen come out of the Black Lives Matter movement, is it time for evaluation of institutional racism in the police?

    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 16 July 2020
The IOPC have recently called for greater scrutiny on use of Tasers following a series of incidents and increasing BAME community concerns. Do you agree whether there is need to investigate and support the strong concern about the increased use of Tasers against members of the black and minority ethnic communities?
