Fines for fare evasions recently have gone up, but passengers regularly witness evaders pushing their way through station ticket barriers to avoid paying their fare. It seems to be happening more and more now and the wider gates for passengers with mobility issues, pushchairs or heavy luggage seem especially vulnerable and much easier for people to force open. Is it only the transport police that can intervene in such scenarios or are station staff able to take action as well?
