Thank you, Chair. Good morning, panel. I address my first question to Deputy Mayor Tom Copley. The Mayor first announced in February that he had received £126 million from the Government’s Local Authority Housing Fund to provide homes for refugees and that this funding would be used to provide 600 affordable homes, mainly for Ukrainian and Afghans fleeing conflict. How many of these homes have been provided so far?

Marina Ahmad AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning, panel. Enver, you spoke earlier about ESOL provision. As you know, ESOL provision was cut through Government austerity by almost 60% before the devolution of the AEB. What impact has this had and should the Government dedicate additional funding to the AEB to rectify the shortfall?

Lord Bailey of Paddington AM: Thank you, Chair. This is for Enver. Earlier on in the conversation, Enver, we talked about asylum seekers’ rights to work and the length of time and people wanted to have it shortened. You said for a length of time, but you did not give a length of time. What to you, would be workable, ideal, something around that region?

  • Oyster accounts for adult refugees and asylum seekers in Lambeth

    • Reference: 2023/2649
    • Question by: Marina Ahmad
    • Meeting date: 06 July 2023
In Lambeth, adult refugees and asylum seekers are struggling to create Oyster accounts because they do not have the documentation required by TfL. Travel to appointments, such as English language classes, is critical for the successful settlement and wellbeing of these new Londoners. What are you doing to ensure TfL makes it as easy as possible for asylum seekers and refugees to access TfL transport services, including consideration of a discounted fare?

It was also confirmed that LLDC would maintain its status with a reconstituted board and a governance structure and a return of planning powers to the constituent boroughs. What were the objectives behind these changes?

  • Question and Answer Session: Policing (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Lord Bailey of Paddington
    • Meeting date: 01 December 2022
Shaun Bailey AM: Thank you, Chair. Trust and confidence in the police in the Black community is at an all-time low, and we can all agree that disproportionality is a big part of that. The disproportionality is the rate at which our children get murdered, and the amount of Black children and people who are involved as both perpetrator and victim of crime. Given this, what plan do the police have to take some of these weapons off the streets? I address that to Sir Mark first.
