    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Are you concerned by current plans to demolish a potentially important covered wharf on the canal at Brentford which would be ideal as an intermodal freight transfer facility? Will you make representations to seek the retention of this facility in line with your Blue Ribbon Network policies? Do you agree that your welcome "Safeguarded Wharves on the River Thames" needs a to be complemented by a similar policy for wharves on other London waterways?

    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Are you aware that the implementation of the 'Waste by Water' project in Hackney (which would see waste transported on the River Lee) has stalled at a critical stage through lack of funding? What can you do to ensure that start-up funding is available for the Hackney project, and for the wider project which would include waste from Camden and Islington?
  • Blue Ribbon Network Agency

    • Reference: 2004/1799
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Will you support my proposal for a Blue Ribbon Network Agency, an overarching strategic body covering all London's waterways (to incorporate existing advisory bodies on canals, the Thames and other rivers), supported by one fulltime officer at the GLA?
  • Greenwich Waterfront Transit

    • Reference: 2004/1800
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Although the impact on local parks and waterways was the major issue raised by residents of the Gallions Hill/ Thamesmead West area in the last consultation on the GWT, TfL continues to favour a route through this area which would result in loss of green spaces. If residents of the Gallions Hill area again reject the TfL preferred route in the current consultation, will you ensure their views are taken seriously and the GWT is routed along Western Way?
  • Railway Crossings

    • Reference: 2004/1801
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Would it be possible for TfL to work with the relevant rail authorities to put up "switch off your engine while waiting" signs at road/rail crossings in London where there is more than a five minute delay. Can a system of occasional enforcement then be put in place to reinforce this message?
  • Borough cycling officers

    • Reference: 2004/1802
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Can you name the local authorities in London which have not got cycling officers working for them on a full time basis? Do you think it is possible to deliver on your election promises and other measures contained in the cycling action plan, without the councils playing their part?
  • TFLs proposal to spend 3.5m on the A4 Bath road

    • Reference: 2004/1803
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Do you agree that the success of the LCN should be measured in terms of sections of routes completed, rather than kilometres built? Do you agree that there is a temptation amongst the boroughs to do the easy bits, whilst leaving out the more difficult and hazardous junctions, etc..? For example, are you concerned that spending £3.5m on the LCN A4 Bath Road, has to be quickly followed by action to deal with the problems faced by cyclists at Waggoners and Henley's roundabouts.
  • Safe Routes to School scheme

    • Reference: 2004/1804
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Given the challenge of ensuring that every school in London has the chance to develop a travel plan and a meaningful Safe Routes to School scheme by 2009/10, do you agree that we need to increase the level of spending on this in the coming financial year?
  • Noise mapping

    • Reference: 2004/1805
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
Will you be working in partnership with DEFRA to help them comply with the EU requirement to produce ambient noise maps by 2007. Will you try to ensure that aviation noise, as experienced by Londoners, is properly acknowledged within the official mapping of ambient noise? In addition to this work, would you be willing to adopt the system used in Sydney where specific locations are identified to show how many planes go over in a typical day and how noisy they are for the people under the flight path. This can then be made available in an accessible format easerly...
  • TfL removal of LCN facilities

    • Reference: 2004/1857
    • Question by: Jenny Jones
    • Meeting date: 15 December 2004
"Why have TfL refused to fund the scheme proposed by Redbidge Council and supported by local people to put in place a signal scheme with cycle lane at the junction of a key arterial route, i.e. Ilford High Road, Seven Kings and New Road. This is part of the London Cycle Network, popular with cyclists and the effect of TfL's decision is apparently to remove the existing cycling facilities, which runs counter to your policy of wanting to see the LCN completed within the next few years.
