  • Anti-Social Music on Buses

    • Reference: 2006/2506
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
Campaigners seeking to combat the growing use of mobile phones and MP3 players to play music out loud by passengers on London Buses have been told that TfL have agreed to put posters up at bus stops, asking people to keep their music down. Would you agree with the campaigners and myself that easily noticeable posters and warning signs on the buses themselves would be far more useful?
  • Bailiffs and TfL

    • Reference: 2006/2511
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
How many complaints has Transport for London received within the current year about the bailiffs they currently employ, and what was the nature of these complaints? Are you completely satisfied with their behaviour and professionalism? How does TfL manage its relationships with these bailiffs and monitor their behaviour?
  • Brixton Central Square

    • Reference: 2006/2520
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
I understand that discussions between Transport for London and Lambeth Council are progressing well on the proposal to create a new central public square in Brixton, however as some time has lapsed since these plans was originally proposed and a funding gap has developed. What is the provisional budget for creating this square, and how is it to be funded? How large is the unfunded component and what thoughts do you have about filling this funding gap?
  • New Opportunities Fund LDA

    • Reference: 2006/2521
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
I was very angry that a community based organisation - which does very positive work with young people on council estates in my constituency was turned away and automatically rejected by the LDA because their application for funding was delivered to the LDA offices ten minutes late. This voluntary ethnic minority led group does tremendous unpaid work for disaffected young people, so why do the LDA not feel capable of cutting unpaid volunteers 10 minutes slack? Is this kind of inflexibility likely to be conducive to developing and sustaiinng work with disadvantaged groups in London? Do you think this was...
  • Transport Interchange Improvements for Peckham

    • Reference: 2006/2522
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
I note with pleasure that the first public consultation is about to commence on the Cross River Tram scheme. I believe that the Transport for London owned bus garage in Peckham and the privately owned station forecourt at Peckham Rye station are in need of projects to improve the public realm and to create business opportunities and better public facilities. Do you see the Cross River Tram as bringing an opportunity to create a new and more attractive and user-friendly bus station for Peckham? Do you think that the forecourt at Peckham Rye over ground station could be opened up...
  • TFL Signalling Dept DTO

    • Reference: 2006/2523
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
I note with some distress your misplaced faith in the performance of the Transport for London signals department (MQT 18 October 2006). Can you please explain why this department is holding up the project to redevelop the southern roundabout at the Elephant and Castle and is attempting to deflect and undermine some of the public realm improvements which the Regeneration Team for the Elephant have proposed, the LDA have agreed to fund and the rest of TfL seem to have no particular problem with? Do you think I should add lack of broader awareness of public realm issues to my...
  • Short Stay Parking in Camberwell

    • Reference: 2006/2524
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
Businesses in Camberwell have complained to me about the confusing combination of loading bays and short stay parking bays along the Camberwell Church Street Red Route. Many of their customers do not realise that one half the bays are for loading only rather than short stay parking and are receiving parking tickets when they stop briefly in a loading bay to pop into one of the shops. Transport for London claim that it is essential to split the parking between short stay and loading to ensure the businesses can unload - but many of the business owners say they would...
  • Anti-Social Music on Buses II

    • Reference: 2006/2525
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
As I write this question, 2,762 people have signed an online petition calling on London Buses to ban the use of mobile phones and MP3 players playing music out loud on buses, and in the meantime to do more to deter passengers from playing music out loud whilst onboard their buses. Do you support this campaign? What steps are you taking to address this increasing nuisance?
  • Illegal left turns off the Old Kent Road

    • Reference: 2006/2526
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
In July a Transport for London officer kindly came with me to visit two junctions on the Old Kent Road: A) The junction with Ilderton Road where the green man phase is too short to allow parents and children from Pilgrims Way Primary School to cross safely. B) The junction with Peckham Park Road where drivers regularly ignore the no left turn rule endangering pedestrians, particularly blind and partially sighted pedestrians headed for the nearby Action for the Blind centre. Although the Transport for London officer who visited has taken these items back to the relevant departments I have not...
  • Melford Road/ Underhill Rd SE22

    • Reference: 2006/2527
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
Has Transport for London received a BSP bid from Southwark Council for funding for work on Melford Road and for Underhill Rd SE22? When was this bid received? When was the main BSP bid from Southwark received?
