  • Cycle Repairers

    • Reference: 2007/1595
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Given the increasing number of people cycling in the Capital, do you think there is an adequate provision of cycle storage/repairers in all parts of London? Have TfL done any work on this?
  • Direct Bus from Barking to Queen's Hospital

    • Reference: 2007/1596
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Will you ask TfL to urgently review bus services to the new hospital? TfL advise that the hospital can be reached by one change, transferring from the busy route 5 onto route 175 on Wood Lane/Rush Green Road. Catching two buses in each direction makes a round trip cost £4 on Oyster. Even when reduced Oyster fares are introduced in September, the cost of catching buses will still be double the car parking charge of £1.60 for three hours. Necessitating a change of bus for this journey, making it so much more expensive than driving, is not helping to meet...
  • Bus drivers' Awareness of Cyclists

    • Reference: 2007/1614
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Can you tell me how bus drivers are trained to consider cyclists on London's roads? East London cyclists tell me that buses pose the greatest risk to their safety, and that bendy buses are particularly dangerous.
  • Phased lights for cyclists

    • Reference: 2007/1615
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Will TfL consider phasing traffic lights to give cyclists a head start on motorised traffic? It has been suggested that separate filtering at busy junctions would stop cyclists jumping red lights. Is it feasible for this additional programming to be incorporated into the Clinton Foundation's discussions with manufacturers on the new generation of traffic lights for London we discussed at the last MQT?
  • Enforcement of Advance Stop Lines

    • Reference: 2007/1616
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Can you encourage London's transport police to undertake more enforcement of ASLs to make junctions safer for cyclists? When we discussed this at the last MQT you suggested that increased neighbourhood policing would assist, but is this not more practical for the transport police to enforce?
  • Olympic Boulevard

    • Reference: 2007/1617
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Do you support Tower Hamlets' and Newham's plans for - and can you report on any progress with - the Olympic Boulevard?
  • Cruise Ships at the Dome

    • Reference: 2007/1618
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
It was recently reported that cruise ships might tie up at the Dome either during the Olympics or as a longer term proposition. Would you welcome such a proposal?
  • Communities England

    • Reference: 2007/1619
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Do you welcome the proposals for Communities England and how do you feel these should be implemented and operate in London?
  • Cyclists and Lorries

    • Reference: 2007/1651
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
What plans do TfL have to reduce the threat to London's cyclists from lorries? As you may know, more than half of all cyclists killed in London in the 12 months to June 2006 were killed by collisions with Heavy Goods Vehicles/Large Goods Vehicles (9 of a total of 17). In the 7 year period Jan 1999 ' November 2005, 60 London cyclists were killed by HGVs/lorries. Although cyclist fatalities in London are falling (from around 22 a year to less than 20), the numbers killed by lorries is going up. With the likely increase of construction traffic associated with...
  • Pedestrian Crossings

    • Reference: 2007/1482
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 20 June 2007
How many pedestrian crossing phases in London do you think give insufficient time to cross? Is this being checked following the recent news report about the failings of one crossing, contrary to the earlier insistence of TfL it was adequate? And are stop lines sufficiently far back from crossings in all cases, given the concerns expressed on this count too, and are these spacings being checked?
