  • Reinvestment in Tube

    • Reference: 2007/2203
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 12 September 2007
Recently, the TfL car park on the side of Hammersmith tube station (City & Hammersmith) was sold. Can you confirm that the receipts of this site will be reinvested in the tube and in particular the City & Hammersmith line? What scope exists for further sites like this to be sold and the money being reinvested into the tube or in building new housing in the capital at key transport interchanges?

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 12 September 2007

  • Polluting Vehicles

    • Reference: 2007/2206
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 12 September 2007
Kensington and Chelsea Council recently criticised your idea to increase congestion charges for the most polluting 'gas-guzzling' 4x4 vehicles. Given that one pollution monitor found that levels of harmful nitrogen dioxide on Sloane Street were two and a half times that recommended by the World Health Organisation and that these cars produce twice as much carbon dioxide as average sized cars, will you reassure the residents of Chelsea, and indeed all Londoners, that you will press ahead with plans to ensure that those who pollute the most, pay the most?
  • First Great Western Franchise

    • Reference: 2007/1573
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
First Great Western has significantly exceeded its targets for carrying passengers in excess of capacity and the percentage of trains arriving in time during peak time has only fallen to 68.4% against a 92% target. Do you support London TravelWatch in their call for the Department of Transport to consider termination of the First Great Western (FGW) franchise?
  • Late Night Sport Facilities

    • Reference: 2007/1624
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
In various cities in the US and other parts of the world, late night sports facilities such as basketball courts or football, baseball and cricket pitches that are maintained by a municipality serve as major community enhancers, reducing crime and raising aspirations and opportunities in under-resourced areas. Behaviour Improvement Projects regularly crop up around the US capital carving short term funding dependent projects on very particular parts of communities. In the countdown to the 2012 Olympics, wouldn't the availability of such facilities help to raise London's profile as a centre of community cohesion whilst enhancing opportunities for young people in...

  • Closure of Local Pubs

    • Reference: 2007/1626
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
Given your commitment to the protection of local shops and businesses in the proposed amendments to the London Plan, do you agree that public houses should be afforded similar protection? The local pub can often be a hub for local communities yet many local hostelries have disappeared recently. While no-one would argue that problem venues should not be dealt with and closed, for some communities the loss of the local pub can leave a large gap and mean the loss of a valuable entertainment venue for an area.
  • London Lorry Control Scheme

    • Reference: 2007/1627
    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
In response to your answer to my question 1486/2007 at last months MQT: it's quite clear that London Councils is not enforcing the London Lorry Control Scheme around Earls Court as it is supposed to. Would you therefore consider incorporating this responsibility within the LEZ and extended Congestion Charge zone responsibilities of TfL?

    • Meeting date: 18 July 2007
What do you make of the comments made by Sir Simon Milton in the Ham and High that Westminster Council will do very little to uphold the smoking ban in public places in the Borough?
