Have you decided whether TfL will arrange for the installation of a shelf across the tunnel shaft as we discussed at the last MQT?
  • Illegal left turns off Old Kent Road into Peckham Hill Street

    • Reference: 2007/0946
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 23 May 2007
In your answer to question 2878/2006 you informed me that an enforcement camera had been installed at this junction in October 2006. However, users of the nearby Action for the Blind Centre have informed me that the problems are continuing. The effect of this is that cars are turning into Peckham Hill Street during the green man pedestrian crossing phase. This is particularly dangerous for visual impaired pedestrians, one of whom tells me he has nearly been hit by a car on three occasions in the last month. Please could you provide statistics for the number of PCNs issued in...

    • Reference: 2007/0663
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
What is the Metropolitan Police view of the use of high street CCTV by local councils for parking enforcement to the neglect of crime surveillance as has been alleged in Southwark?
  • Overground trains revenue protection (2)

    • Reference: 2007/0676
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
The Town Centre Manager in Peckham comments that crime incidents in Peckham are reduced on the occasional days when Southern Railways carry out ticket revenue enforcement at Peckham Rye Station. Do you think crime and anti-social behaviour on the railways would be reduced if such operators had proper ticketing arrangements including the Oyster pre pay scheme?
  • Phone Boxes at high crime locations

    • Reference: 2007/0677
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
Local Brixton police have complained to me that BT and New World Payphones are reluctant to remove surplus payphone boxes, or replace them with less problematic open booths in high street locations because this undermines their advertising income. Do you think it's a breach of phone operators moral responsibility towards the safety of the community to continue to insist on the retention of phone boxes in areas where they are used for drug dealing, drug use and impede the use of CCTV and the surveillance sight lines of police?
  • Northern Line in Clapham

    • Reference: 2007/0678
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
I recently visited every Northern Line tube station in my constituency and whilst TfL is doing a good job in managing these stations, which are clean, bright and well run there are major structural problems with all of the Clapham stations, which are cramped, inaccessible and two have dangerous central island platforms. Where are the prospects for rebuilding Clapham Common and Clapham North stations in the future?
  • Northern Line in Clapham (2)

    • Reference: 2007/0679
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
I appreciate that the Cross River Tram project will relieve some passenger congestion on the Northern Line north of the Oval. However, passengers complain that at morning rush hour it is frequently impossible to get into the stations at Clapham South, Common and North as stations are closed for safety reasons. Can TfL:- a) examine the prospects for providing additional express bus capacity in parallel with the Northern Line and take the pressure off the tube and b) undertake to provide information to passengers 'locked out' of stations during congested periods so that they can decide whether to wait or...
  • Herne Hill Junction Scheme

    • Reference: 2007/0680
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
Is TfL satisfied that Lambeth Council is at last making progress on agreeing the details of the traffic/pedestrian safety scheme for Herne Hill junction. When does TfL expect to be funding the commencement of these works?
  • Brunel Museum Rotherhithe - shaft project

    • Reference: 2007/0681
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
Will you support the creation of a new museum and visitor centre about Brunel and the London Underground in the empty Brunel Shaft above the East London Line, Rotherhithe? The matter is urgent because the construction schedule means the decision to go ahead needs to be given by the end of April 2007. The installation of a shelf at the bottom of the shaft would need to take place during the planned closure of the line in December 2007. The voluntary museum would then apply to Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant to build & fit out the new Museum...
  • Putting South London on the map

    • Reference: 2007/0693
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 21 March 2007
The standard tube map suggests that South East London is a public transport black hole. For many years the map has included the orbital National Rail North London Line. Will you ask TfL to consider the feasibility of including the orbital South London Lines London Bridge - Victoria via Denmark Hill and London Bridge - Victoria via West Norwood on the standard tube map?
