  • Disorder At Television Centre

    • Reference: 2009/4001
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
The answer to Mayor's question 3342 / 2009 was wholly unsatisfactory. You say you believe in free speech but this was violent disorder. You failed to condemn such violence commenting that it was 'counter productive to the unpleasant views of Nick Griffin'. Will you here and now as Mayor of London and Chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority condemn in the strongest terms possible the violence and disorder outside television centre perpetrated by Unite Against Fascism in which 3 Metropolitan Police officers were injured?
  • Volunteers To The Metropolitan Police

    • Reference: 2009/4002
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Now that the British National Party has agreed to open its membership to the black and Asian communities will the Mayor now agree that the current ban on BNP members to volunteer for the Met's volunteer programme should be lifted, bearing in mind the need to attract many people to the programme in the run up to the Olympics?
  • Translation Costs

    • Reference: 2009/4003
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Recent reports state that the Metropolitan Police spent £12.5 million last year on translation costs with predictions that this will rise to £20 million by 2012 due to the continuing influx of immigrants. Does the Mayor agree that this is an indulgence the hard pressed London taxpayer can no longer afford in these times of economic difficulty and should reduce not increase?
  • Climate Change (1)

    • Reference: 2009/4004
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
According to the Mayor's Transport Strategy London will achieve a 60% reduction in co2 emissions from ground based transport by 2025, at the same time London's population and employment growth will increase and accelerate. Are these targets wholly un-realistic and therefore misleading to Londoners?
  • Climate Change (2)

    • Reference: 2009/4005
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
According to the Mayor's Transport Strategy some degree of climate change is inevitable. How can the Mayor make this assertion when it is impossible to say on current data what actually will occur? Hotter and drier summers have not occurred in the last 4 years in London for example, therefore, should we be less alarmist on climate change until the evidence is much clearer?
  • PCSO's Outside Schools

    • Reference: 2009/4006
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Would the Mayor agree that it is a sad indictment of the ruling political class that at some London schools and colleges it is necessary to post PCSOs outside the gates and at bus stops close by in order to control unruly students causing distress and spot drug dealing that is known to be taking place?
  • Attacks On Ambulance Staff

    • Reference: 2009/4007
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
There has been a welcome and quite sizable reduction in physical attacks on ambulance staff from 355 to 180 in the period 01.01.08 to 31.07.08 and then the corresponding period this year. This is a very good effort albeit still 180 too many. Could the Mayor tell us what he believes has been the major contributing factor to the reduction and can it be applied in other areas of criminality involving violence against the person?
  • Oyster card information

    • Reference: 2009/0288-1
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 09 December 2009
Complaints have been received by customers when dialling 0207 222 5600 and then requesting Oyster Cards information. Apparently customers were held in a queue for over 24 minutes despite the message advising they were only 3rd or 4th to be dealt with. After contacting customer services they were advised that the Oyster Cards information service are notorious for delays and that many complaints have been made. Are you aware of the complaints? Can anything be done to rectify this 'user un-friendly' system?
  • Tube Lines

    • Reference: 2009/0287-1
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 09 December 2009
If Tube Lines do not renew their Public Private Partnership (PPP) Contract at the end of 2009, what are the contingency plans for finishing the Jubilee Line upgrade plus any other outstanding Tube Lines work and will PPP be dead in the water?
  • Practical winter help for the elderly

    • Reference: 2009/3339
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 18 November 2009
The Mayor is keen to ensure adequate provision for London's elderly during the coming winter. What can he do to ensure that the need for awkward and stressful form filling is reduced? Many elderly people find these forms difficult, confusing and sometimes demeaning. Bear in mind that many elderly folk will not bother to apply for assistance because of pride, and unwillingness to be seen as taking what they can regard as 'something for nothing'. Does the Mayor agree we must reassure them that they have a perfect right to as much help as possible from public funds? And will the...
