  • Disorder At Television Centre

    • Reference: 2009/4001
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
The answer to Mayor's question 3342 / 2009 was wholly unsatisfactory. You say you believe in free speech but this was violent disorder. You failed to condemn such violence commenting that it was 'counter productive to the unpleasant views of Nick Griffin'. Will you here and now as Mayor of London and Chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority condemn in the strongest terms possible the violence and disorder outside television centre perpetrated by Unite Against Fascism in which 3 Metropolitan Police officers were injured?

  • London Plan and Climate Change

    • Reference: 2009/3753
    • Question by: Nicky Gavron
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Since 2008, climate change has risen up the political agenda. The inclusion in the new draft London Plan of the target to cut CO2 emissions by 60% by 2025 from 1990 levels (policy 5.1) and that the GLA will monitor annually the progress on the contribution of all relevant stakeholders towards its achievement is welcome. Effective implementation and monitoring needs specific policies on different aspects of planning in the London Plan and clear reference to other strategies - climate change needs to be a consistent priority across all the mayor's activities. Why, therefore, are there not climate change policies in...
  • London Plan and Climate Change (2)

    • Reference: 2009/3754
    • Question by: Nicky Gavron
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Chapter 8 - implementing, monitoring and review National indicators for climate change have changed in scope and range. The GLA has only two key performance indicators for climate change, covering strategic development and renewables. It is not meeting the measures in new National Indicators. This means that the setting and monitoring of targets is weak compared with the Boroughs who are required to meet national targets set by CLG and DEFRA including the climate change indicators, for example 185-188. This is inconsistent when Boroughs are expected to be in conformity with the London Plan. Will the Mayor bring the GLA...
  • London Plan: New and emerging economic sectors, policy 4.10

    • Reference: 2009/3755
    • Question by: Nicky Gavron
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Support for a Green Enterprise District in the Thames Gateway is laudable. However, we need at least three in London, and green enterprise districts are just the tip of the iceberg. There is a wide range of economic activities which need to be supported and promoted to reduce London's carbon emissions and to adapt London's built and open environment. Why are these activities not included as part of the policy of 4.10 when they should be the highest priority? Related to this, why do the employment projections underpinning the London Plan (Fig 1.5) and the Economic Development Strategy (Fig 2)...
  • London Plan and housing

    • Question by: Nicky Gavron
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009

  • Volunteers To The Metropolitan Police

    • Reference: 2009/4002
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Now that the British National Party has agreed to open its membership to the black and Asian communities will the Mayor now agree that the current ban on BNP members to volunteer for the Met's volunteer programme should be lifted, bearing in mind the need to attract many people to the programme in the run up to the Olympics?
  • Translation Costs

    • Reference: 2009/4003
    • Question by: Richard Barnbrook
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2009
Recent reports state that the Metropolitan Police spent £12.5 million last year on translation costs with predictions that this will rise to £20 million by 2012 due to the continuing influx of immigrants. Does the Mayor agree that this is an indulgence the hard pressed London taxpayer can no longer afford in these times of economic difficulty and should reduce not increase?
