  • Fare Evasion

    • Reference: 2019/14254
    • Question by: David Kurten
    • Meeting date: 18 July 2019
Fare evasion seems to be getting worse on the London Underground and by the time revenue inspectors catch up with the offenders, the penalty of £80, or £40 if paid within 14 days, is well worth the risk to them. However, carrying an open container of alcohol on the underground has a maximum penalty of £1,000, albeit never enforced. Would you consider raising the penalty fare to create a much stronger deterrent for fare evaders?

Deputy Mayor for Transport, Heidi Alexander has been in her position for over a year, but has not met all the Licenced Taxi trade organisations in an official capacity. Why is this? Do you agree this only exacerbates the deep anxieties many drivers have for theirs and the trade’s future under your administration?
