As you will be aware, the practice, known as ‘facility time’ is when an employee takes time off from their normal role to carry out duties and activities as a trade union representative. I note the report in The Times newspaper on 5 October 2020 that a total of 1,343 pieces of evidence were recorded as lost or misplaced by the Metropolitan Police from the start of 2013 to 15 May 2020, according to data obtained under a Freedom of Information request 1 .
