  • Cycling on Pavements (1)

    • Reference: 2015/4016
    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2015
A constituent has asked me to ask you the following question: Yesterday I saw two PCSOs stop a man cycling on the pavement in Commercial Road. They spoke to him and he walked off from them, pushing his bike along and then when he got out of their grasping range, got back on the bike and cycled off, shouting abuse at them and giving them a two finger salute. What action is the Mayor taking to deter cycling on pavements which is dangerous to pedestrians, particularly those with visual disabilities?

  • Christmas gridlock (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2015
Roger Evans AM: Boris, if you look around the city there is a lot of wonderful, iconic construction work going on around the place. New buildings are going up everywhere. I am surprised, travelling around the centre of town, how many of those developers seems to have found it necessary to extend beyond the curtilage of the development and appropriate parts of the road and indeed parts of the pavement, if we go on to Val’s [Shawcross CBE AM] later question about walking. All of these add to congestion as well.
  • Advice for Londoners in the event of a Paris style attack (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 16 December 2015
Roger Evans AM: One of the benefits that we enjoy as a city in the United Kingdom (UK) is that very lethal weapons are less available to potential terrorists than they are in a lot of other countries around the world, but that does not stop people trying to commit acts with smaller weapons. Sometimes the police officers who get to those types of incidents are not armed with live rounds. Is it worth considering rolling out more Tasers to police officers on the beat so that they are able to neutralise that type of threat from a distance?
  • LFEPA Cuts and the Safety of Londoners (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: John Biggs
    • Meeting date: 02 December 2015
Mayor John Biggs AM: Thank you very much for your earlier answers. I obviously have a parochial interest as the Assembly Member for East London. Particularly Newham but also Tower Hamlets have been adversely affected by the closure of fire stations and the loss of appliances. In your current proposals, potentially we lose another three appliances in Poplar, Plaistow and Stratford and a fourth nearby in Shoreditch. Can you tell us what the cumulative impact would be on residents in my constituency in East London and whether there would be more areas that will fall outside the six-minute response time...
