  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [16]

    • Question by: Siân Berry
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Siân Berry AM: Thank you very much, Chair. My questions are going to be to Sir John, I am afraid. I would love to bring in the rest of you, but I do not have time. You have talked before, with my colleagues, about carbon impacts. I assume that your upcoming review is going to look quite seriously at the contribution of investments across different sectors to Government targets of net zero by 2050. My interest is transport and in London we also have our own target of net zero by 2030. I am very interested in the impact of...
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [17]

    • Question by: Neil Garratt
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Neil Garratt AM: Hello, again. Two quick things, Seb. Firstly, I wanted to thank you for letting us know where the Mayor was this morning, because he himself did not tell us. In fact, the reason that I bring this up in the way that I do is because he does not even tell us yes or no. The staff who organise these meetings send an email to his office saying, “Will you come along?” He does not even give them the courtesy of a reply. It is not your fault and I am not holding you responsible, but this...
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [18]

    • Question by: Zack Polanski
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Zack Polanski AM: Thank you, Chair. If I can turn to Caroline Sheridan from Thames Water, Caroline, the design of homes viz the clever devices that can capture rainwater and use that water, whether it is flushing a loo or watering a garden, and that can really reduce water usage, especially at scale. When we come to an updated London Plan and a new Environment Strategy, can the Mayor do more to reduce the mains water that is used in Londoners’ homes?
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [19]

    • Question by: Keith Prince
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Keith Prince AM: Thank you, Chair. Deputy Mayor, good morning. A quick question to back up what my colleague, Assembly Member Best, was saying in regards to Havering in the Superloop. There is going to be no Superloop in Havering and I cannot understand why you would not have one of the outer-lying boroughs in your Orbital Plan. You are going to be deleting two bus routes in Havering, so as a result of the expansion of ULEZ there will be fewer opportunities for my residents to use public transport. We are going to be discussing it at a later...
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [20]

    • Question by: Andrew Boff
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Andrew Boff AM (Chair): Thank you. We are almost at the end. I am going to take a liberty here. Many of you have turned up anticipating questions which you could answer. Is there any burning issue which you feel we should know about that has not been covered in these questions? It is OK to say no, this is not an appraisal. Dr King.

    • Reference: 2023/2631

What are London's most pressing infrastructure needs and challenges for the coming decades?
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Len Duvall AM: My question is for [Dr] Stephen King, it concerns the London Infrastructure Framework. You have recently released a report that calls on London to develop a central infrastructure development and delivery centre of expertise. What role would the GLA play in that? What is your thinking?
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Zack Polanski
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Zack Polanski AM: Thank you very much, Chair. Good morning, panel. My questions are for Charlie Wood of the Environment Agency. As we are speaking, the news is reporting the horrendous wildfires that are happening in Canada and across North America. People are being asked to wear masks because of the air pollution. We have seen our own wildfires and floods in London, including last year the London Fire Brigade had their worst day in terms of callouts since World War II. Around flooding, you brought forward your own plans for a new Thames Barrier. That means you are going...
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Neil Garratt
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Neil Garratt AM: Thank you, Chair. Morning, everyone. It is good to see you all here. I think it is a very important topic. I am duty-bound, it is now traditional that I have to point out that unfortunately the Mayor did not consider it important enough to come along, but thank you to all of you who have. If I could start with you, Sir John. It is picking up on a point that you raised in your opening remarks about almost every answer to decarbonisation looks like electrification. Therefore, while we talk about decarbonising our existing electrical supply...
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Hina Bokhari
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Hina Bokhari AM: Thank you, Chair. I do want to touch on something that Assembly Member Polanski was discussing earlier about flooding, but I want to link it to pollution through sewage. I am sure Caroline [Sheridan] and Charlie [Wood] would like to come in at this point, but I want to start off with Sir John. I know that you were talking about specific projects not always being part of your approach, but the baseline report that you produced in 2021 said serious pollution incidents from water and sewage are unacceptably high. Then your report in 2022 about reducing...
