A leaked report revealed that the Met decided not to routinely release Body Worn Video footage, due to examples of “poor communication, a lack of patience, [and] a lack of de-escalation before use of force is introduced”. Further on in this leaked report, a senior police officer states that releasing footage of this kind could “exacerbate not prevent ‘trial by social media’ and increase media interest in an incident.” Do you think this is appropriate, or do you think the Met has a responsibility to release this footage?
