Can I just ask what you and Visit London are doing about increasing the number of hotel rooms in London? Particularly as we move forward to 2012, it is going to be a very important issue. • Approving and Planning Foreign Travel (Supplementary) [15]

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 14 March 2007
I accept what you have said about the Mayor who clearly takes his responsibilities to running this capital city seriously, but what about all his staff? I have looked at this document [refers to schedule of foreign trips undertaken by staff in the Mayor's Office]. I brought the smaller version. There is still a bigger version. I am really quite concerned how you are all going to offset all this travelling that you have been doing. Not only singly but mostly you go fourhanded to some very nice enticing places, and really I do not see the point of this...

I did hear in your briefing that you mentioned an expansion or enhancement of three tube lines. Can I give you the opportunity now to expand on that? I am particularly interested in capacity on the District Line and whether, in fact, you have managed to separate the Northern Line, and whether this is going to be done under PPP or under some other financial arrangement. p

Thank you very much for that. Still we will not have an increased capacity on the District line, which is unbelievable to travel on in peak hours.

  • Jack Lemley (Supplementary) [10]

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
Thank you very much. Can I pursue the reasons for Mr Lemley leaving? It has been alleged in some media reports - and of course we have no insider knowledge so I say that these are allegations - that he was inclined to blur the edges between Chair and Chief Executive, which must have been very irritating for Mr Higgins. It is also alleged that he was quite happy to pursue some pecuniary interests and was hoping to recruit a rather obscure American company which turned out to be run by a relative. Again, I am saying these are allegations...
