    In light of the tragic recent death on the Wembley construction site, and the average 1 death a week in construction in London, what powers does the Mayor have to ensure that contractors, and more importantly their sub-contractors, on London's building sites fully comply with their Health and Safety obligations? . .

    Is the Mayor prepared to make Health and Safety a core responsibility of lead contactors for all GLA Family managed construction projects that they cannot contract out to sub-contractors? [Brief- T&G and other unions are very concerned about the fact that many sub-contractors are not fulfilling their H&S obligations. Lead contractors say this is the responsibility of their subsidies. As a result the death toll on construction sites remains at shameful levels. The problem is exacerbated by the high use of (sometimes illegal) foreign workers with little or no english language skills by the subbies. The unions are not trying...
