  • Community Fire Safety Work (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Brian Coleman
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Can I ask the Commissioner, in relation to community fire safety, your views on the sale of fireworks? I have had a number of complaints from constituents over the availability of fireworks in supermarkets. Indeed, in my local branch of Tesco they were on sale between the Golden Delicious and Bananas, with a special two-for-one offer. Do you share concerns of a number of us on the easy availability, in supermarkets in particular, of fireworks?

  • London Fire Safety Plan (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Angie Bray
    • Meeting date: 09 November 2005
I am perhaps expressing myself badly. I think what I was told by one of my residents was that the reason for the excellent response time on 7 July was in part luck because we had fire officers returning from an earlier incident, which meant they were they returning and free to go straight out. I do not know the truth of that; I am just putting that point to you because it was put to me and I wonder whether that was part of it. My other question to Valerie (Shawcross) is that I hear what you say about...

  • London Fire Safety Plan (Supplementary) [10]

    • Question by: Angie Bray
    • Meeting date: 09 November 2005
I look forward to having those figures but if I could just ask one more time ' I am just wondering if that is as good as it always was or whether there has been any change at all. That is what I want to know.
  • London Fire Safety Plan (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Angie Bray
    • Meeting date: 09 November 2005
Obviously as I represent some of the central parts of London, I hear what you say about the fact that there has been a benefit to outer boroughs in terms of getting there speedily, but obviously any loss of minutes for central London is something I would have to view with some concern. In my view, it is better that there should be no loss of minutes and just extra facilities for outer London than that anything should have to move out at all. In any part of London this seems to me a better way forward. However, can I...
  • Resilience

    • Reference: 2005/0406-1

Following the experiences of 7th July, you have identified London Resilience items where it is considered additional investment is needed in 2006/07, what pressure are you putting on the Government to ensure the necessary funding is made available? If the Government is not forthcoming with the money required to fully fund the additional London Resilience items that have been identified as required following the events of July, how do you intend to pay for them?
  • Grant Distribution

    • Reference: 2005/0411-1
    • Question by: Andrew Pelling
    • Meeting date: 09 November 2005
Do you expect that the representations you made as part of the consultation on formula grant distribution will be taken on board by ODPM in view of the very serious potential consequences for LFEPA funding?
  • Fire House

    • Reference: 2005/0415-1
    • Question by: Bob Neill
    • Meeting date: 09 November 2005
When do you anticipate that the Fire House in Southwark will be fully operational again following the fire which occurred there in January 2005? Is real fire training for London Fire Brigade personnel suffering due to the non-availability of the Fire House? With hindsight, do you wish you had abandoned the Fire House project when you took over responsibility from the former fire authority in 2000?
