The affordable housing average across London is about 14%. What hope do you think you have of delivery if the range is as broad as it is now? To take two examples - Hammersmith and Fulham, pretty much more than half of its new housing in recent years has been affordable, compared to - take another at random - Kensington & Chelsea and Wandsworth, below 10%?

    • Question by: Trevor Phillips

I'm sure that the Member for Barnet and Camden will share my view that we do need exactly as you have been saying, but I am sure he will also be concerned at the circulation of a leaflet I have in front of me, which was circulated during the last local council election. It says, "Barnet Council forces through social housing despite soaring crime rises". It seems to me clearly to link social housing with crime. Does that bother you?

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It as yet unclear how we will measure whether or not the congestion charge is a success or a failure. One important issue, which must be analysed is whether more or fewer people die or are seriously injured on our roads after the introduction of the congestion charge. Can you assure us that you will measure and publish comparisons of road traffic accidents before and after the introduction of the congestion charge? .

  • Victoria Line Extension (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Trevor Phillips
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
I'm following up on this one. As you know, this is supported by Nicky Gavron, Haringey Council and David Lammy. Even though it breaks my heart to support anything that Tottenham Hotspur do, it is pretty critical to their regeneration project. Do you think that you can say anything more positive about it, given that the line is already there? This doesn't involve a huge amount of money, but a positive steer from you could make a huge difference to Haringey Council's ability to lever in funds to get the regeneration of that area going.
